Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

Hint: This will be the first introductory text about this project that viewers will see.We are recycling waste and worn out tyres to generate bitumen which is used for tarmacking of roads.
We are also generating copper wires from waste to be sold to electrical firms.
We also grind tyres powder.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

What if we could generate bitumen to tarmack our roads and increase connectivity between placesa?
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

We solving the challenge of global worming which has caused accumulation of green house gases that has lead to destruction of ozone layer hence exposing people to lethal rays that are cancerous. We are also solving the challenge of burning waste tyres which releases toxic smoke. We solving the challenge of disposing of waste tyres as they occupy large land fills hence accumulation of toxic substances polluting our soils. We solve unemployment,

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

We shall create waste tyre collection points in Nairobi and its environment where by we shall obtain this tyres to prevent them from being burnt and convert them into tyre chips that will be ground into tyre powder,This powder using our high-tech technology, shall be burnt in controlled conditions. The copper wires shall be obtained from the combustion chamber and separated and molded into designs of our customers. The smoke from thew combustion chamber shall be filter using micro-filters which shall clean all the gases. We shall also create an art ware house whereby the other tyres shall be sharped and crafted into desirable furniture like tables and seats.By doing the above measures we shall be able to employ youths and women.

We received the award of the best Innovative youths in Ruiru district from the county mistry of environment.we have also received an award from hands for change foundation for being environmental ambassordors.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

3.2 tonnes are dumped off as landfills in unfriendly manner in Kenya only,90% end up being burnt in a crude ways releasing toxic gases and chemicals to the atmosphere and soil.Eco-tyres do collects 500 kg of waste tyres per month which mostly we use to shape it into chairs and tables to be sold to our clients and society. We have led to a reduction in the number toxic gases released in Ruiru town as we pay collectors to collect and bring us the waste tyres. We have also managed to employ 9 people who help in collection, crafting process and distribution of our by-products.Our industry has been also a dumping site of tires and hence preventing improper disposal as they occupy 25% of land spaces leaving 75% unoccupied hence a poor landfill.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

We have managed to employ youths who were in drug abuse and also women thereby increasing their income hence making them to be competitive in the society. We have also been recognized by non-governmental organizations as the young ambassadors who are protecting the environment. As Eco-tyres we have managed to reduce the number of tyres being burnt haphazardly and hence reducing the green house gases being emitted. We have also managed to offer cheap and best designed furniture to our clients at an affordable price of about ksh 300 per dining table making them lead decent lives. The projected impart will be massive as out new technology shall serve to reduce the number of toxic gases emitted by 45% and also create a cheap and reliable source of 20% copper wires for electrical applications. We shall also help in reduction i the cost of road tarmacking as we shall offer cheap bitumen.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We have worked on a high-tech sms coding system whereby we shall create a platform for all tyres distributors in Kenya and link them to one server and them to whom we shall link them to their consumers and by this as the customers by new tyres their will bring the worn out and the distributors will sell to us at a fee hence increasing the number of waste tyres collected. We shall also install this machine which will enable the separation and burning of the waste tyres. Our one best strategy also is to open another plant in Mombasa Kenya so as to tap the 6 tonnes of tyres usually burnt.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

From burning the tyres, we shall obtain the copper metals which are usually expensive and sell to electrical companies and hence raise finances.By we initiating the sms code system to all tyres distributors we shall reduce the collection costs and brokers and hence reduce our production costs thereby increasing the profits. We also shall use wood pellets produced locally to burn our waste tyres and hence a cheap source of biomass fuel.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

In Kenya and Africa there is vendors making shoes and ornamental from waste tyres but the challenge is that this products do go and waste away and they are discarded to the environment. This proposed project will offer a full solution by converting the waste tyres into friendly products with equivalently clean by-products.We shall fully burn the tyres in controlled chambers using wood pellets as a biomass fuel and the gases filtered before being released to the atmosphere and then obtain bitumen which will be used to tarmac our rural roads. We shall fully extract copper wires for selling.

Founding Story

Having lived in Dandora slums from the year 2004, we always spent out time mostly in the garbage site to collect metals for selling to at a fee. This was very lucrative as my parent s who were also doing waste collection in the sit to raise money for feeding the family. This business supported mi till i sat for my K.C.S.E in 2010 and secured a chance at Kenyatta university.During that first semester i remembered my mother gave me ksh 1,000 as my term fees. The money couldn't be able to fend me and in the second month i was locked out of my house as i couldn't raise ksh 2,000 rent. This triggered my mind and i remembered the dump site tyres to burn and sell the wires from them to raise my rent.

My team has one chairman whose main role is to ensure all the activities of Eco-tyres runs smooth. We have 3 directors whom one is on sales department, the other is the finance director and lastly the production director who ensures all the craft work is done as per the client's specification and taste. They do work for full time.We also have 4 collectors and 2 distributors of our products to our clients.
