INSPASSION is a mobile application that helps students own their future. The app guides them in selecting careers that are inspired by their passions, talents, personalities and values. The app also provides them with technical and inspirational tips to navigate the career and link them to mentors.

What if every person lived for a purpose, pursuing a career they are passionate about and talented at? What if we could connect young people to successful people in their careers? What if we had global networks of people sharing passions?

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

INSPASSION is tackling the problem of young people living lives that are not in sync with their passions. These young people not living their passions fail to reach their full potential and bring on the novelty and excellence that is only inspired by passion and enabled by talent. These young people become susceptible to unemployment because they have no burning passion to drive them to do something novel and entrepreneurial when they lack jobs.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

INSPASSION exploits the smartphone world of young people by providing them with an app that will -at their comfort- analyse their passions, talents, personality and values through an assessment that will also be filled by family, friends and educators. An average report of responses to the assessment will be used to make recommendation of careers that fit the user. The app will then - on a daily basis - give him/her tips on how to succeed in the chosen career(s), testimonies of what others are doing, role models stories, self-help tips, and link him/her to mentors in the industry to guide and introduce him to the industry network. Then it will join the users in a social network of people with similar passions to co-inspire each other.

Jane is confused about which career she should pursue. John has an idea of what career he wants but he is not sure how he will venture in successfully. They both download INSPASSION from they stores and respond to an assessment form and send links to their family, friends and educators. They both get an analysis of their passions, talents, personality and values based on combined observation. They also get recommendation of careers they can succeed in. So Jane knows her career and John just verified it. Each of them is linked to a mentor in their industry, and keeps getting inspiration tips daily, and they join a network of people they share passions with. So both Jane and John are inspired to achieve and innovate. They own their future.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

After INSPASSION enters the market, students in colleges and high schools will be greatly inspired and helped to get from A to Z of their careers. In Tanzania and Africa where career counselling is not popular INSPASSION provides even more effective career guidance. Across the world where links to mentors is not mainstream, INSPASSION creates a network of mentors and mentees that help the world grow together. INSPASSION will enhance globalization by connecting people with similar passions across the world for international innovation.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We expect to organize events that will bring together students for motivational speaking, to leverage peer-peer mentoring and networking. These events will help evangelize the app. We will also keep improving the database and creating partnerships with professional associations and individual volunteers to mentor our students. Our major customer acquisition strategy will be viral marketing, partnerships and use of public figures. We will establish regional offices across the globe to help with offline evangelism and partnerships acquisition.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

INSPASSION will use a FREEMIUM revenue model as well as Ads in the passion-driven network. The in-app purchase will cost $3. The in-app purchases and Ads will create an income stream that will cover operation costs, and make a profit. For scaling, the app will involve investors who will be given shares in the company. The exit strategy is going public.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There is no project doing exactly what we are doing but potential competition is posed by Career Assessment websites and Career centers. There also other mentorship platforms. However, INSPASSION is more accurate because it includes opinions of many people (you,family,friends,educators) to minimize biases. Also, it is a "mobile" one stop shop that carries you from "no idea" to "success" through a career assessment, daily encouragement, mentorship and networking. It is cheaper ($3) and more accessible. It is user driven, so the client doesn't feel that they a choice is imposed on them.

Founding Story

Fortunatus Ekklesiah found his purpose in life at the age of 17; which is to inspire and create tools to help people find and live in their purpose, reach their full potential to solve a problem of meaning in their society and hence attain genuine success. After finding his purpose, he has worked as a motivational speaker and life coach. Then his strong passion led him to brainstorm for a way he can help many young people across the world lead meaningful lives, even in his absence, and that is how he landed on the idea of INSPASSION.


Fortunatus Ekklesiah is the Founder and CEO. Mark Mayalla is the CTO who will lead in the product development stage. In this idea stage, Fortunatus is full time, and Mark is part-time- helping once in a while with the ongoing market research. Fortunatus is a visionary and inspiring leader, where as Mark is more of an operational personality. Both -passionate about the idea- make a good working combination. They are former classmates and are close friends. Fortunatus has learned Leadership and Design Thinking from President Obama's Young African Leaders Initiative in East Africa. He has also learned Technology Entrepreneurship from Stanford University's NovoEd; Global Social Entrepreneurship from Philanthropy University. He is passionate about this idea because it is driven by his purpose in life and so he will go any far to realize it. Mark is a passionate programmer, currently a bachelor's student at the Dar es Salaam Institute of Technology. He is highly motivated and creative in his UX Design skills. As we develop into a startup and scale-up we will recruit carefully based on one's conviction of our vision and his potential to the skills we need.
