Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

Enterprise cloud based platform focused on recovering value from industrial waste streams and un-used materials. We providing accountability, traceability, match-making potential exchanges between companies, and we help to guarantee adequate disposal. Enabling a circular regenerative economy.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

What if an effective cloud base platform focused on the industry could help to overcome the ecological overshoot due to the overconsumption of natural resources while generating new business, creating new jobs and helping mitigate climate change.
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Mankind faces an Ecological Overshoot consequence of over consuming & depleting earths´ limited natural resources. Every year 80% of the 11.5 Trillions tons of valuable resources becomes waste. Enterprises are responsible of 50% of it, incurring in significant cost (waste management), on top of the environmental risks. The challenge is replacing landfilling by value chains that transform these streams in valuable products mitigating depletion.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

VALOPES´s cloud base platform & database provides a service specially design where enterprises regardless their industry or size, can gain accountability and traceability of theirs waste streams and un-uses materials. It helps to reduce the waste generation by increasing reusing &/or recycling rates. Identifies potential exchange materials with other enterprises, and allows hiring responsible disposal solutions (less desirable). The system streamlines the entire end of life value chain, empowering enterprises to take educated decisions by: documenting, trace, identify potential match exchanges of appropriate available alternatives in the market (recovery/recycling); monitoring theirs hired waste management performance (less desirable).

Project Graduated from Start Up Chile Generation 12
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

VALOPES launched an open access basic account. Where enterprises can document, classify by type, location, frequency and amount theirs historic generations of waste, unused materials, and obtain basic analytics. That enables them to identify in-house opportunities for reusing materials and reducing waste generation. Meanwhile service providers of collection, recovering, recycling, responsible disposal and ancillary services advertise those free of charge in our service directory. Allowing enterprises to identify, and contact services providers, while we identify potential exchange of materials in the ecosystem. Along this we are piloting the streamline and bidding & hiring module before releasing to market.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

VALOPES after 1 month launching the open access basic account in Chile, already has 10 enterprises that are accounting for their waste streams and unused materials. As well as several service providers are advertising at the directory. Allowing VALOPES to digitalized over dozen of materials & waste that currently requires effective value recovering solutions. At the moment we are planning our first marketing campaign that will be sponsor by authorities and one of the biggest industrial hub in Chile. We expect over 100 new enterprises to register. Meanwhile, we are expanding operations to Colombia, we will launch the platform with the sponsorship of the biggest industrial hub. In the mean time we are testing with our first paying customer the streamline process and hiring module, along their multi stakeholder complex supply chain.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Regarding our long-term growth roadmap, VALOPEs has identified a huge potential market for our cloud-based platform software that consolidates a strategic sourcing ecosystem. We expect to start integrating during the second semester of 2016 with a reporting module to share information with the several national regulatory systems in LATAM region. As we have stated our service solution address a horizontal enterprise market, where our main requirement is that the countries we operate have a firm legislation regarding recycling and waste handling. We will focused in the short term in LATAM.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

VALOPES is focused on product development and traction generation. We have brought on board a CTO to boost up the development process. We will be deploying our costumer acquisition campaign in Chile soon and launching in Colombia the open access platform. We expect to finish our pilot of the streamline and biding & hiring modulo in order to launch it next May to the market. We expect to achieve break-even point during the third quarterly of 2016.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

IT solution addressing the waste & recycling industry in Latam focused on enabling marketplaces buying & selling waste. Or connect households and enterprises with ground base recyclers and cooperatives while accounting for environmental footprints and certificate issuing. Finally there are enterprise resource planning software’s focused on waste manager operations. Non of them provides accountability and traceability services of the flows of materials and waste for enabling strategic sourcing ecosystem, while nurturing new business opportunities and value chains (industrial symbiosis).

Founding Story

VALOPES is the result of Octavio’s choice of life, after finishing his studies he decided to travel the world. While travelling he pursued a msc on industrial ecology (IE). Letting him realized the potential of IE concepts, as a way delivering systems based solutions to sustainability challenges. Two years ago he was introduced to IT and its power to enable a regenerative Circular Economy. Was then when he contacted and old friend, he proposed him to become partners & to develop this endeavor. A cloud base solution that enables enterprises to maximize the value of their waste stream by recovering, recycling and transform it to new product, while dismantling when possible final disposition.

Santiago Mujica leads the product development, being in charge of the technology & design, manages majority of the front-end development (+6 years developing digital service solutions for financial institutions, engineering firms, as project director he experience focused on UX/UI design, Lean and agile development) . Luis Ortega: develops the backend architecture, health and data scalability (+5 years full stack backend developer certified on amazon cloud services, developing back end solution for financial institutions, universities between others). Octavio focuses on managing the product development cycle of the platform and the brand development (+6 years providing management and sustainability consultancy services & researcher on industrial ecology to a widespread of industries).
