About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Nigeria is the most populous country in Africa with over 151 million people, but the total circulation of Nigerian newspapers and magazines is less than 500, 000. The most popular medium of communication is the GSM phones used by over 85 million Nigerians the largest in Africa. 43 million of them have access to the Internet with only about 3 million on Facxebook and Twitter. The Internet penetration is still low at 12 percent according to Google, but projected to increase to 50 percent by 2015. Therefore the majority of the population will be online and the Internet will be the main medium of communication and information. That is why Nigerians Report the most popular Nigerian news blog and part of the largest Nigerian online news and information media network is developing the largest Nigerian community news portal where every Nigerian and others online can post and report news and information of events and incidents happening in their various communities in Nigeria TO BRIDGE THE WIDE INFORMATION GAP between Nigeria and the rest of the world to correct the misleading misinformation on Nigeria and Nigerians in America, Europe, Asia, Middle East and Australia.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Nigerians Report is fast developing the largest Nigerian online news and information media network of nearly 30 websites and presently expanding the flagship Nigerians Report into the first Nigerian global community news portal with the first Nigerian online cinema to be launched in September 2011 to supply daily news and information from Nigerians using their GSM phones, laptops and desktop PCs to post and report whatever is going on in their various communities without censorship. This will end the monopoly of news and information by the mainstream media and checkmate the "Brown Envelope" reporters who ask for cash to report events and incidents. They public can now have free access to report and share their own news and information and increase their knowledge of what is going on daily in all the villages, towns, cities and states in Nigeria and other parts of the world from their GSM phones, laptops, desktops and Internet TV sets. The Nigerians Report Community News Hub will bridge the wide communication gap between Nigerians and others in the global village. Free access to news and information saves lives and helps in the control and prevention of crime and violence. Lack of enough news and information is the cause of the widespread misinformation and discrimination among the various ethnic and religious groups in Nigeria and worsened the perpetuation of the north-south dichotomy fuelling tribalism and sectarianism that led to the loss of thousands of lives and destruction of properties in ethnic and religious cashes and the last post election violence in Nigeria.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Nigerians Report is the first and presently only Nigerian news website using multiple media applications of audio, video and photo to report news and information syndicated by Reuters,, BBC, ABC and social networking sites to report and share news and information from Nigerians to Nigerians and others in the world and reporting/sharing news and information from the rest of the world to Nigerians in Nigeria and abroad. Users can listen and download news reports and information without any payment and they can also report their own news and information countering negative perceptions and stop the tide of ignorance and misinformation on Nigeria. 1. Users can use the Listen Now application to listen to the news reports and download them on their mobile devices like iTunes, iPod, etc. 2. Users can view 24 hours news video on events and incidents in the world. 3. Users can view and download photo eports.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Nigerians Report has peers and competitors like Sahara Reports, Elendu Reports, Huhu, The Will and mainstream newspaper websites, but they are sponsored mediums of the ruling class, elites and political contractors who engaged in cheque book journalism and cash for news coverage that have excluded the largest population of poor Nigerians who cannot afford to pay for expensive newspapers and magazines and have been denied free access to report their own news and information. Free access to Nigerians Report is increasing the mileage and patronage among the poor masses who can simply use their cheap mobile phones to access Nigerians Reports on the go and have been making freewill donations to support the maintenance and sustenance.

Social Impact
FOUNDING STORY: We want to hear about your “Aha!” moment. Share the story of where and when the founder(s) saw this solution’s potential to change the world.

I was on Bonny Island in the Niger Delta region of Nigeria on May 16, 2008 when I received the mobile phone call of the catastophic pipeline explosion occurred in the community of Ijegun, a suburb north of Lagos. But the no Nigerian radio, TV or website was reporting the breaking news! The CNN, BBC and foreign news channels were far away from the scene, but GSM phone users were calling and posting and pigning the news of the emergency. Then it struck me that Nigerians need a common news portal to report and post occurrences of events and incidents from any location in Nigeria. Nigerians Report was created after the 2008 Ijegun pipeline explosion.

What barriers have hindered the success of your project to date? How do you plan to overcome these and other challenges as you grow your solution?

Lack of enough publicity and more funds to pay for increasing bandwidth on secure Servers and Hosting have hindered the advancement of Nigerians Report. Therefore, Nigerians Report will solicit for more public donations and grants to supplement earnings from adverts.

How do you see the information-technology and media sectors shifting over the next decade? How will your solution adapt to and/or drive that changing environment?

With the introduction of Broadband and Internet TV in Nigeria, the population of Nigerians online will increase and will be able to have more and faster access to Nigerians Report and get involved in the populist advocacy activities of the Nigerians Report Community News Hub for pursuit of the mission of Nigerians Report to:

Enlighten the people, generally, and tyranny and oppressions of body and mind will vanish like spirits at the dawn of day.
~ Thomas Jefferson
3rd president of US (1743 - 1826)

Failure is not always an option. If your solution fails to gain traction in the next two years, what other applications of the idea could you explore?

In case of failure, Nigerians Report will reevaluate and re engineer the project based on the feedback of the users and target audiences and the Nigerians Report Community News Hub will be revived until established.

Expand on your selections, explaining how you will sustain funding
