The implementation of agricultural and environmental best practices, according to experience, allow the farm as an idea context for the promotion of didactic, environmental, recreative, learning, activities, that allow the implementation of new economies coherent with the spirit of the present project. The sensitivity towards the environment and the virtuous experiences to optimize the resources turn into an important attractive at the time to commercialize eco tourism, didactic- environmental activities, allowing incremental increases on the inflows for the communities as well as protecting and improving the natural resources.

• Launching and incubation of more than 120 enterprises in agriculture and eco tourism by means of intervention, technical assistance, capacity building, micro credit, promotion, visibility;

• Implementation of actions in the framework of the existing legislation (ley 26331) in the areas of transition and recognition of private reserves.
• Diversified activity in terms of the productive activity of the farm and the segmentation of the local tourism supply (agro-eco tourism, eco-transport y eco-lodges) and technical assistance for the development and commercialization of the segmentated services;

What would prevent your project from being a success?

The success of the initiative depends on a great extent on the receptivity and appropiation of the idea by the target population, in terms of the necessary restrictions for the generation of the protected areas.
Another determining factor for the success of the initiative is the normative support by the public referent institutions –not only their approval of the implementation plans, but also the need for them to demand that others comply with the established norms.

The alliance with INTA, PRONATUR and the Subsecretaría de Agricultura, Ganadería y pesca is essential in order to support the initiative and relate it with institutional channels, guaranteeing a major force of intervention.

The alliance with private institutions is important, specially for the development of the objectives of the institution, in terms of technical assistance and the development of works.

• Technical assistance for the promotion of the micro firms in eco tourism and rural tourism, and hence their inclusion in the competitive market;
• Implementation of the “líneas de chacras didácticas” –open clases, workshops, etc on environmental issues, eco tourism, trekking etc.
• Relating the micro firms to networks, cooperatives, programs and projects which are already functioning;
• Diffusion in the existing channels of promotion;

The Story
What was the defining moment that led you to this innovation?

During the development of the Proyecto Agroturismo Misiones, we realized that one of the mayor restrictions to the tourism and productive activity was represented by the issue of (droughts, floods, erosions of attractive areas, among others). However, the simple infrastructure of a reserve or a bombing system did not make sense if it was not accompanied with best practices etc. That is why it was decided to implement a line of specific projects to take care of the waters that were related to the rural tourism.

The project has been written and developed by Massimiliano Bozza and Hugo Da Silva (responsible for presenting the proposal)
Hugo Da Silva: Argentine, 37 years old, married, two children, born in “Dos de Mayo Provincia de Misiones Argentina”. Tertiary Studies at the Instituto Superior del Profesorado Antonio Ruiz de Montoya de Posadas, Capital Provincial; Profesor of Georgraphy 1996. Worked as a Professor in various schools until he entered the Alternacia system in the year 1997 at the Escuela de la Familia Agrícola San Vicente de Paúl as a Monitor until 2001. Collaborated with the creation of a new EFA in Dos de Mayo and is the Dean until today. He is finishing a Posgraduate course in Pedagogía de la Alternacia at the Instituto de Capacitación de Monitores de la Provincia de Santa Fé Argentina. Year 2004, he starts as a technical promoter of 2 groups in the Proyecto de Agroturismo with the technical and financial support of the ISCOS, Italiana Cooperation; he then becomes the referent in the area of training related to the project and in 2009 he takes charge of the coordination of the project until the present date; Currently he is part of C.I.C.L.O, entity which is part of the proposal, together with the involved EFAs.
Massimiliano Bozza, italian, 38 years old, married, one daughter. Bachelor in Political Science from the Universidad Orientale de Napoli (Italia). Since 2001 he Works in projects for the Italian Cooperation as project coordinator, consultant and responsible of technical areas. In 2001, he was responsible for the “Area Universidad empresa” at the PICT, Programa de Asistencia Técnica a Empresas y Organismos Municipales de la Provincia de Buenos Aires (Argentina). From 2002 until 2005 he coordinated a literacy project and professional training and commercialization for indigenous populations that had returned from the war at Alta Verapaz y Quiché (Guatemala, financed by the EU); from 2006 to 2008 he was Coordinator for a Capacity Building, Health Prevention, Incubating Firms, for the marginalized youth in the area of Canelones (Uruguay); from 2008 to 2010 he become responsible for the area of commercialization and Proyecto Agroturismo Misiones, where in collaboration with Hugo da Silva, this proposal is put together.

Value added to the “chacras” situated on the cuenca hidrográfica del Rio Uruguay, Misiones, Argentina, by recuperating and protecting the springs, reforestation and implementing good practices, strengthening the community through a productive unit and the progressive implementation of eco-touristic, didactic and environmental activities.

Who is benefited by the initiative? (Please highlight the type and number of beneficiaries, and their role in the tourism value-chain.)

Direct Beneficiaries: Average of 60 small families of small and médium producers, whose productive unit (the chacra) is situated at the cuenca del Arroyo El Soberbio, afluent of the Uruguay River.
Indirect beneficiaries: The entire community of El Soberbio due to the positive effect of the tourism in the area and the effects as a result of the conservation of the forests and the flow of water.
