What is your signature innovation in one sentence?

Provide a positive, proactive way for children to comprehend the relationship between their body and a disease, thus helping them to fight it.

Describe your innovation. What makes your idea unique and different than others doing work in the field?

Give life to the mascot of the Rainbow Babies Children's Hospital, thus making it a character that acts as a bridge between the children and the comprehension of their disease. The innovation in this application was NOT TO describe precisely the human body inside as it really is BUT TO RECREATE a new picture of the human body - and all health purposes - via a cartoon work, which made it much more accessible and comprehensible for diseased children.

What barriers exist that are creating the problem your innovation is hoping to address/change?

It's not always easy to bring entertainment, fun and hope when adressing sick people and even more children.
The main barrier existing is the the accessibility to entertainment computers and internet features in hospital / illness contexts.

The beneficiaries are the children who use the game and their families, helping all cope with the disease.

Everyone who goes on the Rainbow Babies Children Hospital website to learn more about Buddy, the mascot of the Hospital.

What are the main barriers to creating your impact?

The main difficulty while creating this game dedicated to children was to be able to designed a world they know, directly connected to their health, but makes it a fun and peace experience who would make them face their condition another way.
The difficulty to create the impact was to deal with a very serious problem and setting it up with "hope" and "not to give up" determinants.

What is the potential demand for your innovation?

As far as the gaming industry and games, will keep growing and imposing themselves as a true means of communication, the potential demand will go incresing as well.
We are actually observing a strong development of what we call the "Serious Games".
This part of the industry is likely to boost videogame representation and effectiveness among communication related to causes, health, education or environment for example.

We are 3 young entrepreneurs, fan of videogames.
We decided to dedicate our work to what is called "Advergaming".
Advergaming is the practice of using video games to advertise a product, organization, a cause or viewpoint.
Serious gaming is considered as a type of advergaming.

Our start-up is called AD-Invaders and was created in 2006

How did you hear about this contest and what is your main incentive to participate? (this is confidential)

We heared about this project from Maarit Cruz, working at Dassault Systems/Virtools and close to Changemakers.
Our main incentive to participate reside in the fact that we think our application will be really different than other projects presented in this competition and will bring a simple but really interesting views of how videogames can contribute to health, especially on an emotive viewpoint.
In this case: get to make the children stronger, happier and more optimistic while facing their disease.
