What is your signature innovation, your new idea, in one sentence?

my new idea is to bring street and war affected children from the streets to school through sports and empowering them to brighten their future

Describe your innovation. What makes your idea unique and different than others doing work in the field?

My idea is unique compared to the existing approaches/policies to street and war affected kids out of the streets, I believe they have their right to decide on what to do, so we will use sport to give them sense of humanity and then individually develop the children's development plan. and we share with them all what is their loniliness and despair to give them hope.

What are the existing barriers, the biggest problem, your innovation is hoping to address/change?

The existing pproblem is lack of funding to strengthen the program but also poor understanding among other interveners in the role of sports to include and rehabilitate children.
the biggest problem we hope to adress is the increase in number of street children in burundi and school dropouts in war affected zones.

Delivery Model: How do you implement your innovation and apply it to the challenge/problem you are addressing?

We are planning to start up in the KIRUNDO PROVINCE which borders with rwanda where we have our succesful programs, this campaign that will mobilise both the street children, war affected children, leaders and other interveners on the use of sport to reintegrate these children in the society. then inviting thesen leaders to some sports days and try to build friendship between the street children, leaders and community hence integrating them in their communities.

How do you plan to grow your innovation?

when this innovation becomes succesful in the Kirundo then there shopuld be mobilisiation of parents into parenting skills to be able to care for their children. education of parents would be the next step and ptroviding the same services to other provinces near by Kirundo like Kayanza, Ngozi and Gitega.

Provide one sentence describing your impact/intended impact.

The impact would be having a country that does not have peaceful children thrugh empowering them and their parents.

What impact has your innovation had to date/or what is your intended impact? Exactly who are the beneficiaries?

Atleast 200 children are being rehabilitated, 20 have been sent back to their homes and preparing the 30 for next years school entry.
we also have 20 teams of street children and war affected children from different sites in Kirundo Province.

How many people have you served directly?

1500 children who attending 3 neighbouring primary schools have been included in our sports and cultural activities and 150 street children are weekly training in sport and cultural activities and after they are given skills in human rights, post conflict reconstruction and skills development.

How many people have you served indirectly?

The indirect beneficiaries are almost 400 children that gather up to play and chart with these street and vulbnerable children to provide them with conforty and sense of humanity.

Please list any other measures reflective of the impact of your innovation?

1- working with the site gang who is the leader of the whople street children on the site
2- working with local leaders to facilitate the reintegration
3- working with the children to identify individually the path they want to go through.
4- Working with teachers to help in training these children.

What are the main barriers to creating or achieving your impact?

1- un skilled labor may hinter my program, bse the program need strong social workers so we have to get funding to facilitate the reintegration process.
2- lack of equipments to strengthen our program
3- we need good coaches to coach the children

How is your initiative financed (or how do you expect your initiative will be financed)?

we have got some small funding and all coaches and social workers have been volonteers and to the fact that the people who do it are dedicated, we believe in getting funding for it.
this is a good cause and we hope to achieve.

If known, provide information on your finances and organization.

we have 2 fulltime volonteers, 10 part time volonteers (coaches and social workers). our annual budget this year was 10.000$ including local funding and equipments. we are a nonprofit making organisation so we have generated no income.

What is the potential demand for your innovation?

The potential demand for our innovation is equipments, staff and dedication to do the work.

What are the main barriers to financial sustainability?

the main barrier is that we are using money with out generatng it, so we only depend on donations and we cannt sustain our self.

How did you hear about this contest and what is your main incentive to participate? (this is confidential)

I heard it from the cofounder of Amahoro Great Lakes Rwanda and from Mr. Wolf from the Homelssles world cup because I had participated with our children in Cape Town in 2006.
I heard this urge of using sport for change when I lost my parents in 1997 and by that time I was france where I was having my carrier in sports and sports he;lped much to reconcile with those who killed my parents that time so I understood the role can play in childrens life when trained at an early age. I celebrate the role of sports for reunification and reconciliation of any society.
