Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The crisis in Greece has affected an already vulnerable group, functionally illiterate women or women with low education. This part considers being 32%(including Roma 80%, Immigrants 90%). Their low education leads to ignorogance of basic primary health information and as a result they don't know ways to access to health services. As a conseuence it is noted high rates chronic inflections and disorders escpecially during pregnancy.

Chroma’s vision is to increase the accessibility in health services of adult&young women with low education&improve their health education through Chroma, a mobile application that is adjusted to cultural diverse needs by audiovisual functions. In order to design this special tool for this cultural diverse audience, the functions& the content, has been tested to 10 Roma Women that had been trained in Health Mediation and 70 women had been informed in 1month just by the experimental app .Now the plan is to promote it to the 10Roma Mediators separately&to 20 young leaders of vulnerable social groups from all over Greece. Main plan though is to engage organizations dealing with Women to highlight it as tool to integrate it to their programs.

Elena is a woman(32) that has quitted school in the age of 14 &she hardly reads.She has health problems but she is uninsured and can’t have access to health services. She decides to ask for help &visits an organization for women. They advice her to download Chroma where she can find hospitals and organizations in all over Greece to take free exams&information about primary health issues.Maria is a young Roma married for two months& hasn’t graduated school. In her culture is taboo to discuss about sexual diseases even with her mother.She noticed signs in her breasts that worries her. She asks the advice of a Roma Mediator. The Health Mediator advices her to download Chroma and be informed of what this may be &which doctor she should visit.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Chroma is a revolutionary approach that provides health education&the same gives the opporunity to illiterate women have access to tecnology. Even if it sounds contradictionary, people with low education use smartphones or have access to them. During the development of the app 10 women informed 70 by a single phone in health issues and we plan to test to other20 people (women&youth leaders). The need now is to expand the target group and the effectiveness of the app. To gain that Chroma's aims to train an Ngo for women on how to integrate the app in their programs and run a pilot project to enrich the subjects of the app. After that this NGO which already has created a network of other Women Ngos could present them the know-how&engage them to promote the Chroma app in their areas.In this way common purposes could come across and gain spectacular results.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Chroma is going to be sustainable after the improvement of the content&with the precondition people&foundations to use it.Chroma has already a website in order organisations to reach it&transfer it's know how. Organisations will have the opportunity to add things&improve the app or adjust it to the needs of their area.To gain that donations will be asked from mobile companies,obstetrical clinics,pharmaceutical,chilcare companies,doctors etc.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

The competitive advantage of Chroma is that targets direclty to illiterate women&is adjusted to their needs in contradiction with the existed apps for pregnancy/workers of Ngos that haven't taken into consideration those women have the right&should be enouraged to utilize the benefits of tecnology.The difficulty is to convience the Ngos&foundations that this approach should be attempted.This can be achieved by presending them an app that has already positive results&by recommending it as a tool a prestigious organisation e.g.Council Of Europe,which is already interested.

Founding Story

The idea came after X-roma that aimed to train Roma Women as Health Mediators.After the training,i had to update the knowledge of women but it's was impossible to run seminars monthly/yearly.After research i noticed that even Roma women have mobile phones&use them daily.I realized that a good opportunity to utilize tecnology is to create an application in their phones from where they could be provided with vital information about health&it's going to be adjusted to their needs.Through that they could gain knowledge,skills&selfesteem about their skills.This can be a start to vindicate their equal rights in the terms of a society that most of the times doesn't take into consideration the needs of a cultural diverse audience.

Christina Tselempi is youth worker on World Wide Aid&Corporation,non profit organisation founded on 2002. WWAC created a Network of Women Ngos&now is implementing in a local level a project for women from vulnerable social groups with the support of the General Secretariat for Gender Equalit,Ministry of Interior (2013-2015)
