About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

ICT has been made a core subject in Ghana being thought in many school but most of these schools do not provide an ICT center where the student will have the opportunity to see these computer they are learning, learn how to use and play around with. so most youth do not know how to use these computers and their importance. My organization is about establishing an ICT center for my community Kintampo. It is to provide computer literacy to youth to help them navigate into the world of global technology. In summery, my center is about computer and technology literacy, involving everyone in the world of global technology.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

To provide computer literacy to youth to help them navigate into the world of global technology.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

my solution to the problem makes a difference in the followingis way: I have divided my target group into two, the youth in school and the youth out of school and to make sure they are making good use of the center, there will be some activities such as an inter- school competition on practical use of computers and the youth outside school will be given a challenge to produce something they have learnt and will go through traning.
Sustainability

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

This center is to be establishing in Kintampo, Ghana, in a region called Brong - Ahafo. In this community more than 50% of the youth now have graduated from at least high school but less than 10% are computer literate. Therefore my targeted population is the youth in school and the youth out of school and also some adult who want a little knowledge on computer and technology. There is no any organization working in this space in this community

Idea
Founding Story: What inspired your venture? Why?

I am a victim of computer illiteracy when I was young. I graduated from junior high without knowing what a computer is and in the senior high school I had opportunity to learn for only a month and we had to stop going to the center because the computer did not belong to the school. Then my passion for computer and technology grew but did not know how to go finding one and using it. I took the challenge to read computer science in the university and it was not easy because I was almost completely new to using computers. So I said to myself when I become able one day the one thing I will do for my community is to create a center where the youth in my community can access computers and learn about them.
I participated in SUSI 2014 and then I realized that computer illiteracy has not only affected me but my family as well. This is because my first day in America I was told that we cannot call our family for the time being so we should email our family then I felt it more how it has affected my family as well because they are also illiterates when it comes to computer and technology. I saw my college participants and friend chat online with their parents and families, they could send them pictures of our activities and reduce the agony of their parent and family of their ward being far away but I did not have this opportunity. That was really hard for me and was a primary challenge I had during my stay for the SUSI program. So I think being computer literate alone without the youth and people around me was difficult and I also realized that I do no’t have to be rich to help my community but can do something with the little I have.

After the center is ready and students have started attending to the center, inter- school competitions will be organized base on practical to test their performance and how good they are making use of the center.

In the long-term (1-3 years)?

In the long term our success will be measured by more than 50% of the youth who will graduate from high school will be computer literate and have practical knowledge on computer

How will you measure success?

I will measure success when in the next 10 year everybody in my community both youth and the old can use computer and technology to communicate and make impact in the life of others.

Sustainability
How will you recruit new members for your venture?

There will a coordinator or secretary who is computer literate and will manage the activities of the center. This person will be employed so it will depend on the persons qualification. Also there will be other volunteers who will come to help with the activities that will organised or teaching some youth when they come to the center so they will the team as volunteers.

How will you appoint new leaders and transfer leadership when the founding members want to leave the team?

Since it based on volunteerism new members will join the team, learn and pick up with the activities. so if a member is no more, there will be other volunteers to take over.

How will you continue your project in 6-months time or once you have spent all of its initial capital?

When it comes to sustainability, there will be an internet café that will generate money for the center and sales of drinks and water. There will be services such as printing and photocopying of documents for fee.
