Despite of it's fast growing in farming, plantation, trading & industrial sectors, only 18,29% of the job seekers are being employed (based on information from government body for social, workforce & disaster reduction in Sukabumi). As the organisation also aims to empower local communities through institutional development, Common Room took part in establishing several local institution such as Bandung Creative City Forum (BCCF) in 2008. From 2009 to 2013, Common Room has launched 736 program & activities, approximately 122 events per year, involving more than 10.000 people, mostly the youth. Since 2012, Common Room has been supporting policy making process that encourage collaboration between government bodies, civil society organisations, academicians & practitioners through West Java Committee for Creative Economy Development. With this success story, Common Room expect to expand its program in another region, empower more youth & encourage more collaboration, so it will create a broader impact in creating the better environment for the development of creative economy & sustainable future in Jawa Barat province.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

This project will become a pilot project that offers a new approach on the particular issues in the province. Apart from farmhouse & creative space development, the project will also construct a new narrative that renders civic participation in addressing local & regional problem, especially in building a bridge that support reciprocal collaboration between urban & rural community. In the future, the project will add a new insight in policy making process, including independent replication & adoption in other area who have similar challenge & problem.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The biggest investment will be placed at the early stage of establishing the farmhouse and its infrastructures, manpower, livestock breeding initiation and employee trainings. On every quarter, the farm will create sales and the revenue will be re-invested for the next year development, and so on. Furthermore, some part of the profit margin will be used for establishing and maintaining a local self sufficient creative space in the near future.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are very limited actor & institution who are working on this issue in Sukabumi. In the past couple of years, there has been an increasing number of youth community who are started to address the problem. Some government agency also started to have more attention on this matter. But due to limited network & capacity, there are no significant transformation yet. With our expertise & experience, the approach will strengthen the effort to stimulate change & innovation in the region, as well to connect all actors & institution who are involved in order to encourage stronger impact.
