Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

Social innovative model "The same to the same" - creation and production of means of care for disabled persons by creating working places at home. Mothers, which take care of disabled children, do not work anywhere and do not get any income, although they had acquired various professions and competencies before birth of disabled child. 20 mothers of that type will be employed in this project.

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

1. Reduction of social isolation 2. Inclusion of above mentioned mothers in labor market 3. Improvement of material situation of family 4. Improvement of psycho-social climate of family. 5. Increasing self-esteem of above mentioned mothers.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

1. 20 working places at home will be created for mothers taking care for disabled children. 2. Mothers will work at the free time from the child care. 3. Cheap maintenance of working place. 4. Marketable, salable and needful goods will be produced. 5. Strong motivation to work.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

The mother is taking care of disabled child who is at home all the time (the child doesn't attend kindergarten or additional educational activities because of lack of funds in the family). The mother is not able to find a work because she has to be with the child all the time - this not only increases risk of poverty of the family but also social exclusion. The project would help to create a working place at home - develop conditions which will let a mother (who is a designer with diploma) to use her professional competencies to create products for selling during e.g. child's sleep. This way a mother will make money for child's additional education and for babysitter. This enables mother to look for a job and have time for other activities.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

The project is implemented at the moment in 1 municipality (Vilniaus city) - it is planned to include 3 more areas (Vilnius region, Kaunas region and Kaunas City). The focus is put on mothers living in rural, remote areas where access to services is very limited or no available at all; and mothers don't have any possibilities to work because of their children's disabilities. Therefore, working place created by the project is the only way for mothers to make additional money and to participate in labour market. Also, it is planned to collect positive experience during the implementation of the project and create a model for empowerment of mothers with disabled children. The model will be further disseminated in other regions (municipalities) of Lithuania, creating better access for families with disabled children. The idea is also to disseminate the model to neighborhood countries.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

This project is innovative idea, especially for Lithuania because there are no other organizations and/or initiatives, and/or projects that would promote active involvement of families with children with disabilities in labour market providing them concrete opportunities when mothers themselves can use their competencies and abilities to make additional incomes for their families. Therefore, the idea is new and not implemented in Lithuania before.

The team will include 1 project manager and 1 financial officer. Applicant already has a list of families waiting for the possibility to have an opportunity to work at home. Also, as the project idea is already implemented with 4 first families, Applicant has necessary experience on activities management - it is fully enough to have just 2 persons who will manage all the work.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact. Please specify using qualitative and quantitative data (e.g. # of indirect and direct beneficiaries); help us understand how this solution truly makes a difference.

To this date 4 mothers are already provided with the possibility to have a working place at home (mothers are working as: designer, constructor and tailors). 4 children are benefiting from this: families have additional funds that they use for children's educational activities that are highly important for disabled children. Also, families show increased social courage and self-esteem: they can make money by themselves and therefore, not fall into families at risk/socially supported families group which also decreases social stagnation and social exclusion of the families and children. Also, the project and its activities is the only such project in Lithuania that directly empowers families with disabled children. No other projects or services like this are available in Lithuania. It is planned that in the future project will help 45 additional families and children in those families.

Funding: How is your project financial supported? [select all that apply]

Individuals, Foundations.

Sustainability Plan: Has your project already reached financial sustainability? If not, what is this solutio’s plan to ensure financial sustainability? Do the main partners have enough stake to sustain the solution? If this project requires limited budget, how will other resources be secured to maintain or grow this work?

One of the project parts foresees sales of products created by mothers, which will help to secure project's financial stability. Part of the money made from sales will be used for project's stability (while biggest part will be given to families). Also, at the moment the project is presented to business companies as the opportunity to promote their corporal responsibility. Also, it is planned that project will help to create additional funds for other services families with disabled children need most (e.g., counselling).

Founding Story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the Partners to get started and/or to see the potential for this to succeed.

The director of leading partner (Applicant) was a mother of disabled child by herself, and her personal experience showed that mothers with disabled children have only financial way to exist - to live from very small amount of social benefits they get for taking care of disabled child. After death of her son, the director started to work with other families with disabled children, assessing their life quality and support provided by the State to such families and children. Work experience showed that beside small social benefits, families with disabled children are denied of active participation in society's social life and labour market, even though first activities that the director implemented together with families showed that active work, activities when families can participate as proactive actors make the best impact on family's and child's life quality.

About the Co-Creation
Barriers: What main barriers may you have encountered to co-create during the creation and implementation of the project and how did you try to overcome them?

The main problem was to decide on and implement quality standards, to be sure that the project has the best possible impact on beneficiaries. This was solved by implementing first activities with first 4 families, and assessing together with them the impact of the activities. This helped to decide on what quality standards will be kept in mind when implementing the project. Also, the other problem was related to logistic - how to provide materials for work for mothers (they can't come and take that by themselves). This was solved by developing system when and how materials are brought to mothers.

Governance: What is the type of the relationship between the partners? (e.g. joint venture, contractual relationship, joint project...)

This project is the joint products of relationships between the partners. Also, the Applicant is one of the co-founders of the Partner organization. So the Applicant is working more with advocacy and promotion of the rights of families with disabled children and disabled children while the Partner is working more with providing direct services to families and children with disabilities.

Interaction model: How is the project a transformative partnership? How is the interaction transforming the partnering organizations and their employees/ leadership in terms of creating a new vision, new management practices, new skills and new organizational structures? Please provide for concrete examples

The project helps to strengthen Applicant's impact when advocating for disabled children's rights and promoting more active support for their families. Also, developed model will help to strengthen Applicant's and Partner's relations not only with national but also with foreign partners. The project will also develop additional practices and skills as well as experience of the Applicant and the Partner to provide better assistance for families of disabled children and children themselves.
