Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

Our goal is instilling the idea of social openness to blind and visual impaired people among non disabled people. Project is addressed to the owners and employees of dining locals, pubs, etc.operating in Wrocław(Poland). We want to adapt locals so they'll fulfill needs of blind and visual impaired people. Also we'll start campaing on a large scale in media that'll highlight problems of access of blind people to cultural and recreational life of city

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

How many disabled people we notice every day?In Poland,if you focus on that through the day you may see few,and even fewer in places of social meetings.Very few disabled people use attractions of the city.It causes that people don't know about their problems, forget about their existence in everyday lifes.Disabled people often experience social isolation which is caused by the mental barriers, derived from the stereotype of a disabled patient as well as architectural and communication barriers, which in practice may hinder use of public space and participation in public life(consumer, cultural and recreational). In a society there is also a belief that the adaptation of public space for disabled people is very costly and time-consuming.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Start campaing which highlight problems and encourage people to act. Promote and create places friendly to people with visual disabilities, which they can visit in Wroclaw.Adapt pubs, restaurants etc.to their needs:preparate and print menu in Braille(also available for the visual impaired through overlay in black-print),place at the front door and in toillets information bars with subtitles in Braille.Foundation staff will train employees of restaurants and show them how easily they can make visual impaired people feel in these places like respected guests. Start a website– adapted to the needs of sensory of disabled people which will show them friendly places that are engaged in the project, also it'll promote the idea of campaing.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Campaing will tell people how they can help and what is the problem.Meeting disabled people in places where we spend free time- connected with pleasure and fun, will let non-disabled understand that people with disabilities also can lead such a life only we need to make it easier for them,it'll be example that we truly help them. At the same time disabled people will have the opportunity to open up,activate socially which will in long term facilitate their professional activity. They'll no longer be afraid that they cause problems in restaurants because they don't know whether they can take more time and are afraid to ask about the menu when there's lot of people which'll create a queue of disgruntled men.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

"Wroclaw – the meeting place" is a slogan promoting the capital of Lower Silesia. Wrocław is creating the perfect climate for initiatives aimed at meeting people with varying degrees of disability, different culture, education, origin. Our idea is to design a long-term project, not only local in Wrocław,we want to expand our activity to all bigger cities in Poland and after that through whole country. This campaing is only beginning of changes which can be made - in future they will concern not only people with visual disabilities but with all kind of disabilities. Including them in public space, in everyday life of others people, in their meeting places, give chance to people with disabilities to show their problems, to show that thay can lead normal lifes but sometimes their need our attention and help and facilitate their social and then professional activation
Sustainability

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

In Poland public space is too poorly suited to the needs of people with disabilities. There are many solutions but they are not used on a large scale - few restaurants in whole country has facilities for blind people. Although this facilities are not expensive and doesn't need advanced forms, they can significantly improve the availability of places for disabled (eg.adequate lighting, contrast and color supporting vision,or in the case of blind the use of Braille signs). Most of organizations that are engaged in helping blind people, concentrate their acting on professional activation of blind people but not on adaptation of public space for the needs of disabled people. If there are facilities for disabled there are for mainly fo motion disabled people not for blind and visual impaired people.

We'll arrange meetings with companies from Wrocław, introducing the idea of the campaign and presenting materials in Braille (menus, stickers), diplomas indicating the place friendly adapted for the blind and visually impaired. This is a chance to reach the information to a wide range of people also because of character of dinig places it'll involve tourist and people from abroad. Cooperation with the Wrocław Regional Council of People with Disabilities and the Polish Association of the Blind will help us to spread the information of activities to members and beneficiaries of the above organization;

No, project hasn't reached financial sustainability yet because we wait for the decision from regional government whether they accept our project and provide financial support. If not, we want to search for support through foundators, sponsors, individuals or companies, or cooperation with other NGO's and gastronomic locals.

Team
Founding Story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the Partners to get started and/or to see the potential for this to succeed.

The idea came to us, when we started our project which was aimed to blind and visually impaired people and was based on professional activation. We organised trainings for those people, in which where also interpersonal training. One of the trainer came out with the idea to go out with participants of the project to a cafe or restaurant. For those people it was absolutely new and they enjoyed it so much! For us it was so suprising that such thing as going out for the coffee may be such novelty and entertainment for them. It was the moment we decide to spread this posibility for all blind people. That's how the project begun to create in our minds. We started conversations with potencial partners - government of the city of Wroclaw and owners of dining locals and ask them to help us in this initiative. We were pleasantly suprise with their responses that where more than enthusiastic!

About the Co-Creation
Barriers: What main barriers may you have encountered to co-create during the creation and implementation of the project and how did you try to overcome them?

We are determined for this project to be completed. For now we can't see any barriers that may prevent us from doing this. We found people which want to co-operate with us and want to achieve the same things as we do - all of the partners are interested in participation of the project.

Governance: What is the type of the relationship between the partners? (e.g. joint venture, contractual relationship, joint project...)

Joint project is the most suitable name of the relationship - we have the same aim, but each of partner has different type of duties. Foundation will take the lead of the partnership, of implementing the project but after that in further actions, to preserve effects of the projects - the great part of this responsibility will be on our partners side.

Interaction model: How is the project a transformative partnership? How is the interaction transforming the partnering organizations and their employees/ leadership in terms of creating a new vision, new management practices, new skills and new organizational structures? Please provide for concrete examples

This is innovative project by which we can make true impact on the society. It is not only that it'll involve the owners in the actions by workerks on every level of the company - staff training will higher level of acceptance among all workers. By envolving every single employee of company, change will have bigger impact and will be more sustain.People would become more aware of problems of people with disabilities, companies may look for another forms of helping other people. By leading their normal economic activity they'll help people. We'll promote for a large scale that socially responsible business doesn't have to be expansive and you don't have to make radical changes to success and help others. We show that tripartitate agreement - between NGO, companies and government is possible and give great results.
