Our organization is growing and has been doing so since we began in the 1980`s. We have always worked with poor communities. We started in a very small building with few children. Later we moved to a bigger place that we built on our own. More children began to assist. Slowly we were able to improve our approach, always trying to give the children the best opportunities to learn. Last year we bought a piece of land that is next to our current building. This action was the first concrete step towards a dream that has been maturing for a number of years: to build a secondary school.Our organization has grown consistently in some areas, especially those related to educational issues.  However, other areas such as "Organizational Communication" and "Finance" are weak, especially in relation to the current chellenges we are facing.That is why we are subtmitting the present idea: to strengthen our media strategy and financial planning to look for potencial donors and supporters of our new secondary school project.

About Your Organization
What are your primary products/services? Please describe all.

Childhood care and education for poor children between 4-16 yrs including; support learning in maths, reading, writing, community library and paper publications, nutrition assistance (breakfast and lunch service), arts and music, gender equity programmes. Also educational and expression tools to youth at risk. "School finishing" programmes for youth and adults. Community activities: workshops, readings, music and arts events, "open air" films.

Who is your primary audience, customer or beneficiary?

Three hundreed and twenty five 4 to 16 years old scholarized children. Thirty five over 16 years at risk youths. Youths and adults from over four hundred and fifty families from two in poverty situation neighboorhoods: "La Loma" and "El Ceibo".

How do your products/services benefit this population?

Most of the children we receive have very low possibilities to finish their compulsory education (13 years long); what reduces their social opportunities . School "Over-aged", "repetition", "desertion" are some of the issues we are facing on. From the very beginning, we have been developing specific programmes to enhance their chance to finish their studies. In this sense, we have produced in service teaching programmes and educational materials.

Twenty six full time. Fifteen part time.

Organization Mission: What problem is your organization committed to solving? In particular, describe what is innovative about your approach.

From "La Escuelita" we are persuaded to give more quality and specific educational oportunities to increase the social insertion to -in poverty situation- youths and children. We trust that it is necessary to offer pedagogic alternatives to their existing possibilities. The lack of a valid and gratifying future perspective in children and young people is the main social problem we are committe to solve.

Impact: What has been the impact of your solution to date?

The constantly increase of our matriculation rates. The quantity of educative programmes we have been developed. The more succesful elementary school finishing rates. The continuity of our teachers and profesors staff. The products that our programmes offers to the community: for example "REvista Cronicas Barriales" ("Neighborhood Chronicles Magazine"). The attendance in each community event.

Impact: What is your projected impact after receiving consulting support from American Express?

A financial and social media strategy plan to develope our current "new school building" project.

Sustainability: Do you currently have the financial and human resources to implement new strategies or recommendations offered through this partnership, or would implementation be dependent on receiving additional funding? Please describe.

Yes, because the support we are asking in this aplication is already running by some of our staff. Of course we are doing in a very artisanal way. Tha is why we would like to receive professional supporting to improve our chances to receive the feedback we are expecting. In particular, Fernando Neo is in our "planning staff" from late 1980´s, taking part of the first building project in middle 1990´s.

Why did you select this specific project type?

We selected this project type because in our organization we do not have any proffesional or specialist who can support us in a specific financial strategy. This is a very neccesary tool to develop our current goal to enlarge and improve our building towards the creation of a secondary school.

The financial modeling we are facing are related to develop a new "Organization Financial Planning" and a new "Raise Funds Programme".

Our first interest points to receive assistance for the specif building project we are developing. However we would like to receive a professional point of view which helps us in our current financial model.

What are you trying to accomplish by improving this area of your operations?

We need our organization expands our financial planning in a "growing stage".

If you were to receive support, what is your expected outcome at the end of the consulting period?

A sustainable financial plan and a "Fund Raise programme" strategy.

How will support in this area allow you to deepen your impact?

Actually we lack a structured financial plan, what influences in a negative way to improve our developing plan. The existence of a plan a a fund raising programme could become more sustanaible our actions.

Actually we do not have any kind of planned action in this area. We think we are losing the oportunity to arrive to potencial funders and supporters who cuold help us to build a new school.
