Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

Ladify empowers young Cameroonian Ladies through free inspirational instruction and practical tailoring trainings to make them excel in society.

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

70% of Cameroonian women never get exposed to leadership and entrepreneurship development courses. Also, about 30% of them lack professional skills in at least one domain. As such, they are discriminated upon in employment proceedings; they are generally abused and never have the courage to stand up and “fight”; and sometimes, the only option that is left for them is prostitution whether out rightly or in a hidden manner”

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Our mission is to provide free sustainable and innovative assistance to young underprivileged Cameroonian girls in areas of leadership, business and academic development. We trust that our efforts and dedication will help young girls to flee from poverty and social ills.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Imagine Aminata, a 16 year old Muslim girl who loosed both of her parents in a car accident.. She went to live at her uncle’s house where she was treated as a “slave maid” for 1 year since she had nothing doing. One day, on her way to the market, she falls on a group of women who say they “help young girls to be stronger, gain some skills and intellectually fit“. She decides to follow them and gets to attend their weekly trainings on business, female leadership, and tailoring/design and works at their showroom. After 1 year of training, she had gained some money, business and leadership experience, and went out to create her own tailoring shop and impact in their own way.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

The community we are engaged with is principally the Buea community. Specifically, we will focus on underprivileged ladies between 11-29 in terms of low income, abuse and discrimination of all kind. We see to empower them and they will have the obligation to empower others. Some organizations like Africa Progress Alliance are already working in these areas but there is still a great need for female assistance because these associations offer general support and not specific assistance to women.

Founding Story: What inspired your venture? Why?

I had a very close friend whose father died when we were just 13. Slowly, financial difficulties forced her out of school. Life was so miserable in her home that she fled to her aunty’s home where she was maltreated and “used” as a slave . She ran her aunt’s place and went staying with her boyfriend. Then came the day when she felt pregnant and her boyfriend threw her to the street. Due to her financial conditions she had nowhere to go so she returned to her aunt’s place. Her aunt even maltreated her more to the point that she had a miscarriage. She escaped from the house and became a prostitute. Seeing her in this state, I decided to act.

How will your Venture define success in the short term (1-12 months)?

We will define success in terms of 4 main criteria
Having at least 16 ladies engaged and fully committed in our program

Increase in the tailoring skills of our trainees as manifested by high quality designed dresses and jewelry form the trainees

Having at least 80 recurrent customers and appropriate sales and income from our showroom

An increase at least one partner and one sponsor for the project every trimester

In the long-term (1-3 years)?

In a long-term, we will define success in 4 main areas:
Obtaining our own office to host our showroom and training center
Obtaining another branch in a neighboring town, Limbe
Getting permanent partnerships with companies and organizations
Having more than 100 girls touched directly through our program

How will you measure success?

First, using questionnaires addressed to all our stakeholders: Trainees; partners; sponsors; volunteers; and community agents. These will address the effectiveness and impact of our actions.
Second, we will keep a track record of the evolution of all Ladify Alumni and seek how far our training has helped them to be better people and impact the community.
Third, we will measure the number of people trained and compare it with the plans we have.
Fourth, we will form an evaluation committee made of volunteers from among the trainees, trainers and partner organisations. This committee will constantly measure and control activities of Ladify
Fifth, we will measure success based on the number of people who attend our open seminars

How will you recruit new members for your venture?

First, by working with the national employment fund, a state HR agency, to get recruits without paying any charge.
Second; by advertising any vacancies on websites related to social/community works and related issues.

How will you appoint new leaders and transfer leadership when the founding members want to leave the team?

The leading members of Ladify will be elected via open elections Previous leaders can recommend the next leaders for general elections.. In case of transfer of leadership, the previous administrators will have to transfer all documents and information to the next elected administrators.

How will you continue your project in 6-months time or once you have spent all of its initial capital?

First, given that our main source of income and the pillar of our sustainability lies in sales of shoes, jewelry and clothing in general, we will use the revenue of sales from the showroom to fund our future activities
Second, we will also use funds from our sponsors. A key strategy is to build a strong brand and establish lasting relationships with sponsors. As such, we believe they will support us as we proceed with activities
