About Project

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Based on our experience all this years, we are set to advance in the implementation of the Social Enterprise approach, as a better accepted solution to our mission. Advocacy, awareness & education where initial components to affront our challenges, and to prepare the community. The next step is to actively integrate the social, economical & conservation components into a project that uses the Natural Capital of the National Marine Park of the Bay of Loreto. We'll do this full engaged in a social enterprise that takes in consideration all the stakeholders involved in the social and economic activities within the Park. We will provide innovative tourism services with a minimal & monitored environmental impact and in a self sustain way.

What are your primary products/services? Please describe all.

We Promote collaboration & public awareness; Along with advocacy to strengthen grassroots community-based efforts. We also help to design, develop & assist the implementation of strategies.

Who is your primary audience, customer or beneficiary?

The local and regional community of the Municipality of Loreto Baja California Sur, Mexico. But also the local and international NGOs, Public & Private sectors with interest in our community. Along with all the tourists visiting the National Marine Park of the Bay of Loreto.

How do your products/services benefit this population?

We believe that by protecting & conserving our natural and cultural environment by means of empowering civil society and government, we can jointly create healthy and prosperous communities. Communities where the quality of life is related to the health and vitality of the environment with citizens acting accordingly.

10 full staff personnel, 3 part-time, 10 to 20 volunteers

Organization Mission: What problem is your organization committed to solving? In particular, describe what is innovative about your approach.

Our mission is to protect and conserve our natural and cultural environment by empowering civil society and government to jointly create healthy and prosperous communities. We believe that properly planned development is beneficial, we do this by assembling a broad coalition of citizens & organizations. So we can influence the implementation of sustainable processes that will provide protection to our natural treasure, and at the same time a source of social and economical development.

Impact: What has been the impact of your solution to date?

Since our foundation we have done great impact in the public awareness of the importance & value of our terrestrial, coastal & marine living eco-systems. We have been educating our community to better understand the interaction of Economical Progress & Natural Environment. We have also demonstrated leadership in assisting Loreto’s decision-makers in adopting reasonable growth policies. At the end of 2012, made possible with the help of a generous gift, we acquire our permanent headquarters, known as the “Community Center for the Environment” it has been providing a unique venue for the entire Loreto community and become a valued asset to the public. Allowing us to expand our program capability, visibility and service to the Community.

Impact: What is your projected impact after receiving consulting support from American Express?

Our organization will be better prepared to the affront the financial aspect of our growing efforts, by applying efficient business methods we can develop a self sustain project for a long term success. We will be able to design or adapt a effective marketing strategy that will help us get our message clearly to our broad community.

Sustainability: Do you currently have the financial and human resources to implement new strategies or recommendations offered through this partnership, or would implementation be dependent on receiving additional funding? Please describe.

We do currently have financial and human resources to implement the new strategies and recommendations, we are also in the process of approval for additional funding trough several National and International foundations. We just recently are embarked on a collaborative effort to establish a “Sister Park” program to advance eco-tourism and job opportunity in the region. To support this endeavor, we have partnered with the local Marine National Park and other several international Organizations.

We believe that long-term success of any of our programs is related to the appropriate financial model, that we apply.

What financial modeling/management challenges are you facing?

Our staff has been very capable on their activities so far. But we need to improve their skills and adapt our methods to the growing pace of our organization. And to the challenges of our future Social Enterprise actions.

We are looking mostly for the overall aspect, that will help us identify our weakness and how to become stronger.

What are you trying to accomplish by improving this area of your operations?

We want to become cost effective, with measurable results. We want to effectively project self sustain programs.

We will be using the appropriate financial modeling tools, to fulfill our mission.

We believe that if we use marketing properly, we can effectively send the goodness message of the Social Enterprise approach to the resolve both conservation & Socio-Economic problems of our community

Please describe the challenges you see with your marketing and ability to evaluate your marketing effectiveness.

We need to take more seriously our marketing strategies, go beyond posting on our Facebook page, and our twitter status. Actually we don't analyze & measure our marketing effectiveness, and we feel we are missing a great tool for the success of our projects.

We want to effectively reach the whole population of our state, that includes local and foreign community. Then the tourism with interest in our region, that is people planning to visit and long time visitors.

How do you currently assess the effectiveness of your marketing?

We don't really have a specific tool or method.

What are you trying to accomplish by improving this area of your operations?

We can now see that is becoming a important tool to effectible send our messages.

Our staff will be better prepared to use the marketing tool available, This will become a standard common practice.

Marketing has being doing wonders for the for profit organizations, Social Entrepreneurship is all about using the business methods for the profit of doing Good. We will promote conservation while sustaining a Socio-Economic activity, What else you can ask?
