About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Segregated areas are often socio-economically disadvantaged, with a higher proportion of unemployment and residents living on social welfare than in the rest of the country. Studies show that children from immigrant areas have a greater risk of not being authorized to high school compared to children from other types of fields, as explained by areas of social and economic structure. Of the students who graduated from elementary school, school year 2011/12 had more than one in five students have not achieved the learning objective in one or more subjects and thus lacked complete grades from elementary school. Studies show that an unemployed youth will cost society about 700 K SEK per year in the form of direct costs including community etc.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

To increase integration IUG working with children and young people from all social classes, so that a "we" and "they" no longer exists.IUG want to integrate children from different backgrounds and have them meet on neutral grounds. All with the aim to strengthen children's future.IUG start working with children early and follow the development for a long time.IUG appears to reduce the risk of exclusion, leading to big gains for both individuals and society.IUG using sport as a tool in that,in cooperation with local associations, introduce recreational activities in PE lessons in school. Every leader trained in IUG's methodology. Leaders of IUG activities have a very important role in achieving the desired development of the target audience.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

There are many children who are not capable of swimming skills due to various reasons. It has not had the same opportunities as other children or they may even prejudice, religious reasons, newcomer, etc be what puts obstacles, which usually affects their self-esteem and self-confidence. According to the Swedish curriculum if you can not handle swimming school, you become even fail in Physical Education. Thanks to ICA Maxi Södertälje support so IUG have been able to organize several swimming lessons where we save lives and also gives children opportunities to learn to swim by IUG. IUG uses the local swim clubs instructors that are in place when the local schools come with their children who need to improve their swim skills.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

IUG has as a goal to scale both on a national level as well as globally. There are several more municipalities that needs IUG in Sweden. Still the method is easily scalable to other countries and contexts as well. A qualitative goal is to give children the opportunity to shape their future, no matter where in the world. This is done partly by spreading the IUG model, as well as working with policymakers and involving different stakeholders to create opinion and change the system. The IUG model is based on bringing together stakeholders in society thet would not otherwise have had the opportunity to meet – municipality, local associations, schools and teachers – a structure that has a lot of potential to effect society as a whole to become more integrated and dynamic.
Sustainability

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are several different organizations working in sports and Inclusion in Sweden and beyond. Although there is no one that connects the different stakeholders in sociaty like IUG – creating momentum and using the power of both school, municipality, teachers, local sports associations etc.

Founding Story: Share a story about the "Aha!" moment that led the Partners to get started and/or to see the potential for this to succeed.

From an early age, Admir built his dreams based on whom he saw in his neighborhood. He remembers feeling that the options were limited to three: he could become a pizza baker, a social service worker, or a criminal. However, thanks to his father introducing him to sports, Admir was drawn in a positive direction. His father started a basketball club for immigrant young people in Landskrona to keep them off the streets. By 18, he was running the organization – and since then he created sports without boarders – with the goal to make young people in these areas realize that they can become more then they at first thought.

About the Co-Creation
Barriers: What main barriers may you have encountered to co-create during the creation and implementation of the project and how did you try to overcome them?

The initial “yes” is always the difficulty in a partnership, and the same goes for the ICA maxi collaboration. Still, after that the collaboration has worked out very nicely.
Once the partner type on, so everything's about to get it to be involved and that it has both the experience and feel IUG. We do this by inviting them out on the field but also where we show that we always deliver the highest possible level. Results Measurements and surveys are conducted, evaluations and even story tellings where children and young people themselves tell about their development thanks to our partner.

Governance: What is the type of the relationship between the partners? (e.g. joint venture, contractual relationship, joint project...)

contractual relationship + joint project

Interaction model: How is the project a transformative partnership? How is the interaction transforming the partnering organizations and their employees/ leadership in terms of creating a new vision, new management practices, new skills and new organizational structures? Please provide for concrete examples

Ica Maxi is providing both skills and finance to IUG. But IUG is also providing both opportunity to take part in the local community, as well as talent in the form of interns to ICA MAXI – that are always looking for great youths to maybe employ in the future
