About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

computer illiteracy help send more children to school. reduce early death of young people by encouraging a healthy food no smoking or drinking area. this will also give chance to juvenile offenders to turn their lives around it will help young people become more independent and less reckless because we will be there to talk to them when they have no one to turn to, and it will be the best seeing that it is a youth led initiative and it can be said that its easier to talk to someone about your age. it will reduce a lot of tv sessions and more garden sessions, hence more knowledge to empower young people secondly there are no jobs for youth, even if its a small percentage but this project will create jobs for young people.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Youth will be offered an opportunity to learn and develop entrepreneurial business skills, and become advocates for environmental and health issues amongst their peers and within their community. Participants will grow fresh produce on an urban agricultural site and develop business/marketing skills. Furthermore, this program promotes healthy eating habits, increases awareness around environmental issues and encourages physical activity. Young people will be encouraged to be involved in the planning, researching, decision making, fund-raising and running of the Youth Garden; empowering young people and giving them responsibility to create a sense of ownership and commitment. That’s why the Youth Garden is a very special project.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

AT THE MOMENT IN ZAMBIA, WE WILL BE THE FIRST YOUTH TO EMBARK ON THIS VENTURE. WE ARE DIFFERENT BECAUSE WE ARE TARGETING CHILDREN AS LITTLE AS 4 YEARS OLD, TEACH THEM HOW TO PLANT AND RECYCLE SO THAT THEY GROW UP WITH THAT KNOWLEDGE AND WHICH WILL BE EASIER FOR THEM. Club EM has similar concepts but not as extended as ours. Youth will benefit from our The Youth Garden Program more than any other youth organizations because we are tomorrows future leaders, hence our slogan “The Greatness is in me”. We plan to set programs and activities in an open environment and we are determined to forge ahead for a better Zambia. Our programs will not only be about work but also about having some fun in an open green environment with other youth.

Founding Story: We want to hear about your "Aha!" moment. Share the story of where and when the founder(s) saw this solution's potential to change the world [125 words]

when i was walking home one very hot day i saw a scrony small girl sitting on the ground under a very big beautiful tree. she was begging for money to buy food. i asked her why she was not in school and she told me that her parents had no money to send her to school. it really touched me that i got to finish school and she didn't, i further asked her what grade she was in and she said she stopped school the previous year in term 2 and that was her last year. it brought tears to my eyes that this well spoken child had only one and a half terms to go before she completed her high school. it then dawned to me that since the tree was her source of protection from the scorching sun while she begged for arms, we needed more trees and more people to give a lending hand so that every child can finish their education and become great leaders of tomorrow then whala THE YOUTH GARDEN PROJECT was born.
