In the region of Las Yungas, in the North of Argentina, it has been identified barriers for the development of local entrepreneurship such as the lack of access to markets and commercial channels, the poor entrepreneurial spirit and lack of skill for management and trading and the lack of access to assets. Since 2011, PlaNet Finance Argentina is implementing several activities in the region to anwer to these barriers. The project consists in supporting the commercialization of local products, providing technical assistance and training workshops in management, associability and commercialization and finally implementing a fund for purchasing products. What is innovative about the approach is the coordination of different local actors to implement the project.

The specific project need is the improvement and the innovation in the commercialization of PRODUCTOYUNGAS products. It is necessary to implement new long-term comercial channels that allow a more efficient and regular sell of the local products.

The support from American Express will be focused on the improvement of the commercialization of the PRODUCTOYUNGAS products, especially in terms of visibility of the brand and effectiveness of the sell.

PlaNet Finance Argentina already offers training in terms of commercialization but didn't use sophisticated technology as mobile banking or credit card.

¿Cuál ha sido el impacto de la solución hasta la fecha?

The pilot project starts in 2011 and for now its concern more than 200 entrepreneurs and several local associations: 12 clubs and two weaving mothers clubs (150 beneficiaries), communitarian tourism associations (La Apachetam Atucoque), beekeepers and producer clubs. Through the training workshops all of these participants have developed technical and management skills and some of them already manage their own funds. Also, artisans and producers now have several commercial channels that guarantee regular sales. Finally, the access of self-managed credits has been improved for the entrepreneurs and associations.

What is your project future impact after receiving professional support from American Express?

The expected impact after receiving professional support from American Express is the strengthen of products and services commercialization from the Yungas. On one side, producers and craftsman manage to sell regularly the production via the development of new commercial channels. On the other side, it’s to be expected that those who provide touristic services increase their visibility and their demand, by a bigger affluence of tourists in the Yungas. As a consequence of the socio-economic growth, around 2000 indirect beneficiaries will see their situation improved.
