Bio:
After decades of development efforts, globally 1 out of seven people are still forced to drink dirty water and 4 out of ten lack access to a toilet that allows them to defecate safely and with dignity. I try to think out of the box to develop new strategies and build new partnerships to help tackle the world's crisis in access to safe drinking water, sanitation and hygiene. This has led to WASH United, the first large initiative that uses the power of sport and the role-model function of mayor sport stars to promote safe frinking water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) for all. Sub-Saharan Africa and South Asia - the two world regions most lagging behind in access to sanitation. I deeply admire India, her culture and her people. A world in which no one is forced to drink dirty water or defecate in a plastic bag for want of a toilet. A world in which every man, woman and child enjoys their fundamental human right to safe drinking water and sanitation! 2006-2009: Legal Officer, Right to Water Programme, COHRE 2009: Researcher to the UN Independent Expert on Water and Sanitation, Ms. de Albuquerque May 2009 till present: International Coordinator, WASH United, and Senior Legal Adviser, Brot für die Welt

WASH United (WASH = WAter, Sanitation & Hygiene) develops interactive games that use the power of fun and play to educate children and change behaviour around the difficult issues of sanitation and hygiene. To maximise impact, we share our game-base tools through a social business model.

Diarrhea is the second biggest contributor to the global burden of disease (WHO 2008) and the biggest killer of children in Africa (The Lancet 2010), killing more children than HIV/AIDS, malaria and measles combined. Every second hospital bed in Africa is used by a patient suffering from preventable diarrhea, draining resources from already fragile health systems.
