About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The above solution addresses several aspects such as; social barriers that prevent women to compete effectively with men for educational opportunities, employment and even using their talents. There are also problems women face such as clothing , shelter, food and sanitary towels that are not readily available to women living in rural areas. This is sometimes caused by women not being given equal opportunities compared to their male counterparts.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Give an equal opportunity to women by making them as competitive as their male counterparts. Providing formal and non-formal education, food, clothing, sanitary towels and shelter to the girl child. Social barriers can be broken by creating awareness about women problems and the best way to do this is publishing problems and solutions to the problems in a magazine that will reach masses. The magazine will motivate so many women as they will read about other women who have been successful in life and how they achieved their success .
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Need to create awareness for women issues as most women don't even know about their own rights, it will be the best platform where women rights can be discussed in details. The magazine will strictly employ women on both part-time and full time basis hence it will be by women, for women with women. A lot of women will be able to put bread on their tables. Profits from the sale of the magazine will be used to educate girls and providing them with basic needs that they require. so many girls will be educated giving them opportunities to compete equally with men for employment opportunities.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Gear will change a few women first by providing them with employment as editor, journalists, vendors, distributors or any other related vacancy. This is because the sale of the magazine targets a small population of readers. With increase in sales then more women will be employed and make them financially independent while bright female students shall be identified and educated. With growth of the magazine, then more girls will be educated. Initially, not more than fifty women shall be employed while thirty girls shall be provided with educational opportunities. By the year 2020, Gear is expected to employ over five hundred female employees either directly or indirectly while Over one thousand girls shall be be provided with either formal or informal education. Gear will also help in nurturing female talents in different disciplines e.g. sports, music e.t.c. making them independent women
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Making the magazine as entertaining and informative as possible with the intention of expanding the market zone. Promotion about the magazine shall also be done using the internet with the aim of making the newspaper a national magazine. The magazine will also be coming up with minor projects to sustain it without external aid e.g. various competitions where participants register with a non refundable fee and other methods used to raise funds.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

A lot of people produce magazine because it is a profitable venture, yet non are using it as a philanthropic tool. In cases where it is used to create awareness then it is normally given out for free. This magazine will target all educated women who can read and will be used as a vehicle to address women matters. There is a ready market, especially in urban areas where a good percentage of women are educated and working. Men who can read and have the purchasing power will be the secondary market segment. For a small price the magazine will be distributed on a monthly basis within urban areas.

Founding Story

Seeing little girls being misused as house help when their age mates are in school learning and the numerous rape cases which depict and illustrate vividly how women are looked down upon in our society. The conditions which drive most women to engage in illegal activities such as prostitution against their will. On the other hand, there are so many women who struggle to raise their children without the support of the children's fathers. Due to failed marriages, death or just plain irresponsibility on the man's part. Being raised by a woman who was uneducated after my father died from an accident, i experienced first hand the difficulties women go through. I felt the need to come in and help other women raise upright and noble children.

Impact
Impact: What is the impact of the work to date?

The work has not commenced yet but immediately after kicking off, Women are going to be employed either directly or indirectly. This will ensure self reliance among the now working women. Secondly, sensitization of women issues through publication of the magazine. A lot of women are going to be sensitized by reading the publication and will also get the opportunity to contribute towards addressing solutions or problems related to gender parity. Thirdly and most important of all, is when the project starts realizing a profit, then bright girls are going to be given the chance of getting an education by being sponsored by the project.

Barriers: What barriers might hinder the success of your project and how do you plan to overcome them?

Algeria to a large extent is a Muslim nation therefore it is a big challenge in publishing a magazine that creates awareness about women going to school and getting employed among other issues. This aspect will be approached with a lot of caution so that whatever is published does not conflict with Islamic teachings. Social barriers will also be approached with caution as these are explosive areas that could lead to even the government going against the project in favor of the people. Hence the magazine will be non political and will only address less controversial subjects affecting women.

Full Impact Potential: What are the main spread strategies moving forward? (Please consider geographic spread, policy reform, and independent replication/adoption of the idea or other mechanisms.)

The magazine will be printed and spread within the urban centers at the start, because individuals in urban areas are usually educated and employed hence can afford to purchase it. Aggressive women shall be employed to make the magazine embrace religion (Algeria is an Islamic state) as well as sensitize women on gender equality. The idea is to make it as informative as possible as well as entertaining to ensure that it kicks off with a bang. The intention is to have as many readers as possible because this will ensure that the magazine can now be distributed to the rural areas. Using the social network is another way of ensuring the magazine gets to the masses. It will be a monthly issue, that will later be produced and distributed daily.

Sustainability
Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The plan is to make the magazine entertaining and informative in order to expand the market zone. Promotion about the magazine shall also be done using the internet with the aim of making it a national magazine distributed daily. The magazine will also be coming up with minor projects to sustain it e.g. publishing books for young female writers, competitions where participants register at a non-refundable fee or loans to women at a small interest

Is it okay for a woman to know how much her husband earns and in case the woman is also working, is it the husband's money that should always be used in providing for the family needs?
