About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Increasing the percentage of poverty that in targeted areas, especially with the families that have been financially supported by marginalized women Increasing the unemployment percentage among women in the targeted areas Decreasing the women role (socially and economically) in the targeted areas The bad psychological impact on women as a result of poverty, unemployment and deprivation

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

We have established the first women incubator in the Arab World, which have sponsored the developmental income generating projects for five years. It has targeted 10% of the underprivileged women and special needs where there needs have been determined in the target locations and they had been given practical and vocational trainings by specialized trainers and consultants. This has enabled women to manage their projects. Also, we have coordinated with several marketing companies (local and international) to market the projects’ products. We have coordinated with lending companies that have helped the women by giving them loans to expand their projects and give them funds as a way to encourage them. As a result, the women incubator is the best solution we have to solve such an issue for the care and support that gives to the women and their projects at the same time.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

The project has made a huge difference in solving the problem through conducting many planned activities as part of the strategic plan of the project. For example, the women have participated in identifying their needs and have been trained in accordance with their capacity on their projects. Also, we have coordinated with marketing companies to sell the projects’ products. Through this way, the women have become decision makers in their houses and businesswomen outside. There are lots of success stories including the following: Four women have been elected to be mayors or municipalities’ members in their areas, and more than one hundred women have been registered in the chambers of commerce and industry in their areas to be business women after they have been helpless and underprivileged who knew nothing but staying at home

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

As a result of the success of the first phase of the initiative which ended in 2010, the PLCCDS received additional funding to incubate 555 women-run mini-businesses in 2011. As of 2011, it incubated over 1,200 projects and has managed US$2M in funding. Based on their evaluation, the Arab Fund for Economic and Social Development has pledged an additional US$750,000 to expand the business incubation model to Northern Palestine. By economically empowering different groups of women, the PLCCDS aims to empower 5,000 women in the next ten years, and thus contribute to elevating the economic status of women in the Arab World. The goal is to become the business incubator for female-led small businesses in the Arab World.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Over the next five years, Fida will expand outside Palestine by partnering with local organizations in other Arab countries and providing training and coaching on her business incubation model which local organizations can then adopt. Using this strategy, Irada will continue to keep its operations independent, localized, and able to engage local communities of women on a widespread scale.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

No, no one has tried to solve this problem by using such initiative in its form and content (where it focuses on the integrated development of all developmental rings). But, there were some random initiatives that aimed to get funds but it did not adopt the development method. As a result, they have quickly disappeared without leaving any impact except a significant burden on the beneficiaries.

Impact
Impact: What is the impact of the work to date?

The project contributed successfully to poverty alleviation and unemployment alleviation by the provision of income sources for 2000 women who manage families.
The effects were greater than the expectations of the organization's management. According to what was observed in 2011/2013 the economic and social lives of 3000 families have improved.
More than 2000 developmental projects have been implemented after finishing all the needed trainings targeted the underprivileged women with 20% of special needs women among them.
One hundred women have been registered in the chambers of commerce and industry and 20 marketing exhibitions have been conducted.12 brochures have been printed and distributed to activate the role of incubator on media and assess the economic and social impacts of the women’s projects. The future impact: Increasing the women income in a remarkably way and enable them to be in leading positions.

Barriers: What barriers might hinder the success of your project and how do you plan to overcome them?

1-There is a difficulty in identifying the beneficiaries among the women due to the huge number of them who suffer from poverty, unemployment and deprivation
2-The project team face a difficulty due to the movement restriction in the areas that are near to settlements. Israeli soldiers along with the settlers harass them whenever they see them
3-The several attacks that the settlers involve in against the project team in the old city in Hebron
4-Difficulty in recruiting enough money to cover all of the marginalized sites in Palestine
Our plan to come over these difficulties:
-Specific conditions have been made to identify the eligible women in accordance with specific criteria including the following:
-women who are affected by the settlements and apartheid Wall
-women who run their families economically
-unemployed women
-women with limited income
-women should be involve in the project trainings
-women should contribute by 20% in the fund
-seeking help from the Red Cross and TIPH
-seeking funds from different local and international organizations

Full Impact Potential: What are the main spread strategies moving forward? (Please consider geographic spread, policy reform, and independent replication/adoption of the idea or other mechanisms.)

We are going to spread our project by making a huge economic and social change in women’s lives where we will implement and spread the projects in Palestinian territories. Also, We are going to develop the idea through conducting huge media promotion. The main spread strategies are going to be as follows:
Having media covering and promotion
Inviting people to conducting field visits to the successful entrepreneurship projects.
Spreading the various success stories
Inviting the capital owners to contribute in the project after telling them about the success stories
Inviting the rich Arab families to adopt projects that help the most marginalized Palestinian families
Developing the incubator idea and working on making it the first one on the Arab world level

Sustainability
Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

1- Due to the existence of Business Women Incubator that provides marketing for the project's products. Our monitoring for the projects is getting bigger. Some of the returns were used to develop the project, which means that they are marketing on the long- range.
2- There are confirmations by the recent funders regarding the continuation of supporting the project. In addition to that, we are searching for new funders continuously.
PCCDS aims at improving the project's idea and the continuation of it for five years.
3- The project's activities will continue because the incubator will continue untill2018. This means that women will continue exporting their products. This means the continuation of expanding the projects and sustainability.
4- PCCDS has the possibility to analyze the research's results especially that the incubator's team is trained continuously and the team is expanded continuously too.
