Our innitiative is to bring together the Central European at risk youth by organizing a series of inter border soccer tournaments with teams of different countries surrounding Hungary. Also to raise awareness in issues such as racism tolerance and develope inter-cultural relations. We also look to motivate participants to practice sport, have a healthy life style and keep on studying.
Until now we have been organizing in a very succesful way inter border tournaments with our Romanian partner, our idea is to make this initiative bigger and congregate the youths of the other countries surrounding Hungary.

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

In many of the border areas of these countries live people with different cultural background and sometimes even different language than the one of the country they belong to, as well as minorities such as Romas, and migrants. There has been a lot of intolerance, racism and lack of comprehension in the border zones surrounding Hungary and other countries. Even thought Europe is small, big differences in culture, language, economy, old conficts, politics and recent wars have made the people in this area grow appart through time.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Is unique due to Hungary´s geographical location in Europe. Hungary has a common border with 7 countries and is very close to several others. This gives us the incredible opportunity to bring together the youths of more than 10 countries, and to make a positive impact in their lives. This will also bring the attention of the media and the population of the countries thus multiplying the effect of our positive message.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

In June 2009 we participated in the border integration match in the city of Timisoara in Romania all activities developed in a eviroment of friendship brotherhood between the two team nations. The teams showed the audience of the game that living in tolerance, respect and understanding and the value of playing in a team and work together for a common goal. In August 2009 OSA organized a new football match with the partner of Romania in the city of Makó near the border. The interest generated by the last game in Timisoara was so big, that for this new game several teams wanted to take part. For this new tournament we counted with the participation of a team of israeli children that were spending their summer in Budapest from the cities of Sderot and Shlomi which are constant target of the rockets launched from the Gaza strip. We also counted with the participation of a team composed of African migrants living in Hungary, and a team composed of sport journalist from popular newspapers in Hungary. Two TV Channels from the local media covered the games, there was also a big concurrency of local people. This is an exampole of replicating an idea with a positive impact. In just three months from two brother teams playing in Romania, increased to five teams participating, plus a big coverage from the, media the assistance of the public, and the interest showed by the local authorities is a good indicator of the possitive impact in society and that our initiative is bringing results . And what better opportunity to express this messageof integration, peace and tolerance than football, a sport that is able to bind people together and erase differences and build a better Europe and a better world for tomorrow.

What would prevent your project from being a success?

Thwe project is already a succes, we had a possitive response in th etwo sides of the Hungaria-Romanian border.
What we need is th eresources to make the project bigger and make things happen faster . Most of the countries are3 inside the European Union so common policies in travel and people rights ensure us succes. The Story
What was the defining moment that led you to this innovation?

In the past few years the right Wing Nationalistic movements, have been on the rise all around different countries in Europe.
In Hungary in the las years the extreme right wing, has been very loud, promoting the no recognition of the Trianon agreement of 1920 in which Hungary was shorn of over 72% of the territorry it had previously controlled, whicl left 64% of the inhabitants including 3.3 million of Hungarians that live now outside the Hungarian territory.
Also to mention the recent political tension created by the Slovak Republic about the Benes decrees. And the tension with Austria, concerning the contamination activity of a leather factory, and the attempt of OMV to incorporate the Hungarian owned MOL.
This as well as other political and social unrest , brought the idea to spread the message to the neighbooring countries of: peace, tolerance and frienship and what better way than to do it through the paractice of football, that is a sport loved by every body and that is able to bind people together erase differences and promote peace and alleviate the present tension.
And also to show to th epresent political elite that most people living in these countries and particulary in this border zone swant peace.

Tell us about the social innovator behind this idea.

We meet the solcial need of the people living in border areas of this countries in a innovative way and that is to use the special capabilities of sport in this case football to bring people together and spread a possitive message
