About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Poverty and lack off determination from girls and lack of support from parents Education is non attractive and lack of role models in the community. Teenage pregnancy is also a big problem in the community.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

It is unique because fooball for girls is rare and not seen as a means of aquiring other skills, but a fun game that is played for 90 minutes and it is over. We inturn to play football and stay in school, learn skills and be empowered too.The program seeks to supply and improve the manpower capacity of the district through quality training of these girls. This will go a long way to brigde the gap between male and female enrollment in the district.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

• A 15% increase in girls’ enrolment in upper primary level education in targeted communities • A reduction in absenteeism and truancy in schools • A decrease in dropout rates amongst school girls at junior secondary level • The creation of a school scholarship programme targeting underprivileged girls • Acquisition of Media, advocacy and leadership skills by girls participating in the project and influencing their communities to change some cultural stereotypes • Project has ensured career orientation of girls who are mostly drawn from rural communities changed to more prestigious and rewarding ones. For instance baseline information indicated that most preferred careers by the girls was dressmaking, hair dressing and petty trading. This is now shifted to girls desiring to become Nurses, Medical Practitioners, Teachers, Engineers, Accountants etc • Complimentary nature of the project ensured that girls in the project promoted the National Health Insurance Policy from an initial coverage of 42% (2007) in the Upper Manya District to 70% by 2009 thereby increasing people’s access to health care
