Health and Nutrition Development Initiative (HANDEI)

The HANDEI program, run by the grassroots nutritional organization A Self Help Assistance Program (ASAP), based in Zimbabwe, has a number of initiatives to strengthen the capacity of the communities in the Nyanga district.  The intiative I am nominating is a sustainable way to increase the nutritional status of community members.  The program, nutritional gardening, teaches and trains people how to grow and cultivate moringa trees, a species indigenous to the area.  Moringa leaves can help families to drastically improve their nutritional practices.
