Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.
This project is about discovering talents in sports, and develop their talents so they become independent and responsible people in the society. The sporting activities shall include Football, Basket ball, Volley ball, Table tennis, Lawn tennis, High Jump, Long Jump, Swimming, Wrestling, and Boxing.
It shall be in both male and female categories, except for boxing and wrestling, because in a society where the men feel dis-empowered and unable to provide, we should not forget that it is the women who suffer the most from being violated, and placed as less import. So we want to even the playing field for both the men and women to have equal opportunity to compete and to be seen and honoured.
Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.
Rivers Games is the first of its kind happening in Nigeria, it consist of several games to take place successively, and will be an area of growth for the economy and stakeholders each year with increased registration numbers of participants and spectators. We envisage a minimum of 5% increase each year in registration in our five years business plan, starting from 2016.
Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?
The Rivers Games’ five year plan is to hold the competition first in Rivers State for the first year (2016), which shall further hold in all the Niger Delta States in the following year. In the third year, it shall be held in the South and Eastern states. In the fourth year, it shall spread to the Western states. And in the fifth year, it shall cover all the Nigerian states and the Federal Capital Territory.
Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?
The solution plan to ensure the financial sustainability of this project is to seek sponsorship from corporate organisations, businesses, government and advertisement during the events.
Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?
Although the country have a national sports festival, but it does not meet the need for all to participate because of the politics involved to partake. Therefore, this is the only project initiated to address the problem.
Founding Story
It was during the 2007 edition of the national sports festival, after I tried to be part of it, I was not even given a trial. Then I heard about how the English Premiership came up. I also got inspired when I realised that if I don't do it, probably, no one else will.
