Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

Filter Cycler is a water purification machine that we invented using the readily available resources which are cost efficient and reliable. It came into existence when l realised that people were drinking contaminated water which was causing loss of lives of people and water borne diseases.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

"What if a cost efficient water purification system could be used to save thousands of lives, improve the quality of life and standards of living of people in the world"
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The project is addressing a national crisis in Zimbabwe which is also a UN Sustainable Development Goal number 6 (Clean water and Sanitation). In 2008-2009 alone in Zimbabwe, more than 4000 people were killed because of cholera and nearly a 100000 people seriously affected. This situation is well documented and currently people are drinking contaminated water which is causing loss of lives of people and also water borne diseases such as cholera.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

To provide clean and safe water to drink which in turn increases quality of life of people and also standard of living. The other solution is to eliminate loss of lives of people due to water borne diseases.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Considering the high death rate of people due to water borne diseases, through this machine it will alleviate all those challenges to a zero death rate percentage of people dying of cholera and typhoid thereby making a huge positive impact to the community and the world at large. Also , through this machine, when people start to drink clean water, it improves their quality of life and standards of living.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

To date more than 500 people have been using the system where we were placing our prototype machine. It is at the growth stage and we still need to educate the people on the importance of clean water. We intend to replicate the project in other areas facing similar social and environmental challenges which has a projected impact of over 1 million people.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We intend to replicate our project in areas seriously affected and Africa as a whole because clean water usually is not seen as a major challenge and priority. We intend to partner with Non governmental organisations for support and make a huge impact to the world.Making the world a better place.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

For the sustainabilty of the project, l intent to sell bottled water in which it will be 20 cents cheaper than the normal 500ml of water which is 50 cents.Selling of the filter cyclers is also another way for the project sustainability since the total cost of the machine is just 750 US Dollars. It can be targeted to rural areas and also in towns and cities.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are other players in the water purification systems but it differs with this project because the filter cycler is an innovative and economic way of purifying water. This system can be used anywhere around the world. It is a cheap way of having access to clean water.I believe everyone has the right of having access to clean water.

Founding Story

In 2008-2009 alone in Zimbabwe, more than 4000 people were killed because of cholera and nearly a 100000 people seriously affected. This situation has been well documented and people are continuously drinking contaminated water.Even tap water is not safe to drink hence this prompted me to come up with an innovative solution to the challenges that we were facing as a nation.I saw an opportunity to do business since l have the heart for the people and a mind for business.
