Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

This idea seeks to sprout forth the utilization of the abundant blessing of the sun in Africa in the form of Solar energy to power UV water treatment devices to provide clean drinking water in both rural and urban settings given the fact that one of the key challenges in accessing clean drinking water is knowledge limitations.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

this solution uses solar energy to power ultraviolet bulbs that will be inserted in containers or water allowed to pass close to the bulb to allow disinfection of contaminated water. UV treatment compartment is a simple structure and can with guidance be made locally by local artisans with only the provision of the UV lamp and Teflon or quartz sleeves. see diagrammatic representation below.

I believe this solution will bring down incidences of water borne diseases especially in Africa. Today an estimated 1.8 billion people use a source of drinking-water that is contaminated according to WHO

One point worthy to note is that the UV treatment compartment can with guidance be made locally by local artisans with only the provision of the UV lamp and Teflon or quartz sleeves.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

my plan is to develop units where the costs will depend on the size of the panels and output requirements. In this case I am looking at solar power sets small enough to power one UV lamp in a treatment compartment that can make available 20-40 liters of drinking water so as to considerably lower costs and also look at collaboration with governments to under take tax waivers or suspensions on solar power sets or items so as to increase their availability and promote their usage in diverse ways

I intend to work within manageable budget and make the device small enough for its affordability and also make a number of innovations around the same system like developing small ultra violet water treatment kettles

I am positive this idea will succeed be cause I have extensive knowledge on water treatment with know three years experience in water quality control at hariss International Ltd following my graduation in 2012 with a bachelors degree in science technology with Biology at kyambogo university in Uganda
