About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

At EcoMundos we believe humanity's problems are systemic, dynamic and interrelated. We believe that in order to taclke them effectively, we must use technology in an innovative way setting platforms so people can participate actively and collaboratively to generate solutions that have a multidimesional impact. At EcoMundos we will try address 4 of the 2015 global goals for sustainable development. Poverty, Hunger, Health, and Climate Goals

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

We propose to rebuild social networks, collaboration and innovation using technologies to address global problems and finally we propose to transform ourselves personally and collectively to be more ecologically conscious. EcoMundos tries to address hunger and malnutrition problems, sustainable economic growth, and be ecologically conscious of how we impact the environment implementing the solution. We will do this by creating a digital marketplace to sell, exchange and buy ecofriendly products, as well as to build collaborately projects to satisfy collective problems related to information and education about sustainable ways of living and well-being. Finally, it will have a space to promote ecological projects developed at schools
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Local farmers will be able to have a global market to their natural and handmade healthy products. At the same time, EcoMundos will provide eco-friendly packaging solutions to their products in collaboration with recycling start-ups. Users will be able to reuse their empty bottles or jars by cashing them into credit for their purchase. When products cannot be sold in glass or plastic reusable containers, the packaging will have another use: paper will come with a foldable design to make art pieces (e.g. origami) and toys. Consumers will also share their recipes and info about healthy eating habits. Users will also be able to collaborate and co-create healthy living actions/initiatives. Purchases already donate to ecological school projects.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

EcoMundos will have an impact three levels. At a personal development level, by promoting healthy eating habits and consciousness. Projects will include workshops and webinars on the impacts our consuming habits have on the planet. Along with those actions, there are community/social development initiatives that will be provided with communication and other tools make the projects sustainable (orchards that can be managed by students and other volunteers). Part of the surplus of the distribution of healthy products can be destinated to foodbanks and other social lunchrooms. FInally, it will have an enourmous impact as it will reduce the environmental footprint by consuming efficiently distributing products and developing eco-friendly packaging and consumption. All of these will be accompanied by educational digital material to use at schools on sustainable development.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

3 million children die of unnecessary malnutrition. It is not because we do not have the amount of food necessary to prevent that problem but a distribution, culture and information problem. At the same time, local small and cooperative farmers do not have the economic nor educational muscle to compete with the food industries which increase poverty and lack motivation for the ir children to continue farming. EcoMundos will tackle these problems by building strong community-farming-schools collaborative relationships to eat better, grow as communities and have a positive ecological impact.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

It will grow accordingly to the consumption of the products. However, we believe it is project that by ensuring healthy and eco-friendly eating habits it can gain support rapidly from local governments. We believe in our potential to be an "ebay-facebook-kickstarter" for local farmers, eco-entrepreneurs, and people who want to buy and support this sustainability project. Eating better, building community and promote ecological projects.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are startups that are developing new markets so that people can take their containers to lower our environmental footprint. Moreover, there are companies like WholeFoods that promotes healthy and organic eating habits from a well-being perspective. However, what EcoMundos proposes is to develop relationships that trascend the usual economic transactions appealing to our collaborative genes to be able to address the sustainability problems of malnutrition, hunger, local economies and farming, and environmental footprint. All of it will be promoting collaborative education and communication

Founding Story

I have been working on a dream of founding a project to address hunger, education, poverty and other social issues in different parts of the world. While working at the foundation I do now, I enrolled in an course called U.Lab: Transforming Business, society and self. In that Journey, I was able to connect with my deeper self, and be able to notice that my passion for healthy eating and well-being, could be related to my other big passion: healping people to develop themselves spiritually, socially and economically. Finally I took the leap of presenting a protoype and bam! there were people who liked and told me of similar prototypes. I realized then that I this project is a raw gem.
