Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

We provide you with clean, reliable and cost-effective energy from natural sources.
Our power systems are noiseless, maintenance free and environmentally friendly. They produce no green house or toxic gases.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

What if you could generate all the power you need without having to pay a bill or buy fuel?
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Insufficient electricity has been a major problem in Nigeria. As a result families (the well-to-do) opt for diesel and gasoline generators which is quite expensive to maintain and sometimes leads to deaths due to carbon poisoning, he exhaust gas is also contributing to global warming. The electricity problem also account for low educational performance of students as it becomes difficult to read during night hours.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

The problem of electricity can be solved when alternative power generation systems are explored and adequately utilized. These alternative power systems include Solar and Wind power generating systems. This is because they avaiable naturally, are inexhaustible, environmentally friendly, they are clean, durable and also cost effective in the long run. This project is aimed towards educating the government and general public on the existence of such power generating alternatives and to also help in procurring, installing and monitoring such systems where necessary.

Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

YELWA WATER PROJECT: Yelwa is a village in Ganye Local Area of Adamawa State in Nigeria. Water shortage has become a norm in the village and this has forced the community to depend on streams and surface wells for their water supply. The contaminated water from these sources is infested with all sorts of disease causing organisms and this has brought infections such as Typhoid fever, cholera, diarrhoea and other water-borne diseases. However, succur came to the community when the member representing Ganye constituency in the Adamawa state house of assembly gave a contract for a solar-powered borehole (pictured above). The village now has clean water supply even without being connected to the national grid-courtesy of our solar power system.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

The Solar powered water system installed in Yelwa village has been supplying clean water to villagers since December 2014 using the nature's resource (sunlight). The villaers do not have to buy fuel or pay for electricity bills before they access a clean and safe water. Our solar lighting systems provides the illumination needed by students to study in low light situations. Hospitals use solar-powered refrigerators to store vaccines and ice packs for their operations. The cases of carbon poisoning and the release of green house gases will be greatly minimised if more people adopt renewable/green energy. people in remote areas with no grid coverage will still generate electricity to meet their needs.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

This idea will be spread majorly through public awareness. The strategies include organising seminars/workshops, TV/Radio adverts., internet/social media platforms, patnering with N.G.Os and govenment agencies, With the government policy on alternative energy, this project will help the people of Adamawa state and the north-eastern Nigeria to have access to electricity. This is because Adamawa state and the north-eastern Nigeria has a very high annual solar insolation. The project is poised to cover the entire north eastern Nigeria in the coming years.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

This venture will be sustained by reinvesting the proceeds from projects handled. The venture will also strive to adapt to the dynamic nature of clients' demand in order to stay afloat in the business. While we try as much as possible to satisfy our client's need we will also make sure we secure a margin to enable us grow.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Other ventures addressing this problem include; Pamtronics Nigeria Limited, Simba group, and Mustard seed. Our competitve advantage lies in our marketing strategies. While these other ventures remain in their offices waiting for clients to call in, we shall go out to meet our clients wherever they are. we shall also give incentives to our clients- a practice that is uncommon here. While others target government organizations for 'big contracts', we will keep it simple and affordable so the common man can also benefit. This will increase our turnover.

Founding Story

The compound where I live has about eight flats occupied by different families. Due to insufficient power supply, all the flats use different generating sets for their electricity generarion. The noise coming from the generating sets was so loud that at times I find it difficult to get a sound sleep. There was this night that I tried to sleep but there was no power from the national grid, the ambient temperature was so high and the noise from the generators was so loud that I became uncomfortable. I now sat down outside and though "What if all the flats in this compound have a stable power source that is devoid of noise and air pollution? how peaceful would it be?" SOLAR!
