Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

This project is about briquette production. A compressed biomass used as fuel. It is an alternate source of fuel to firewood and charcoal. This make use of waste organic materials, recycle it into a new product. we focused on using palm kennel shells and saw dust, char it and then compress it.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

what if our project could address deforestation, climate changes, respiratory diseases as a result of using firewood and charcoal as a fuel source, stress when lighting it. It will also helps in cleaning the society since wastes are gathered and recycled.
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

This project seek to address the problem of the use of unclean and environmentally unfriendly source of fuel and its associated effects such as climate change, deforestation, global warming, respiratory diseases and stress in using this kind of fuel. It also helps in keeping the society clean by gathering waste materials and recycling them into a new product, the briquette. It will reduce the unemployment rate.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

This project has design a system, a compressing machine that will recycle or compress this organic wastes into a new product, the briquette. This seeks to provide a clean, accessible and environmentally friendly source of energy and affordable to all. It will address some societal problems such as employment, global warming, climate changes, respiratory disorders and deforestation.

Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

This project has impact a lot in our society. soo many food vendors and other domestic or household user of our product have congratulate us a good work done base on the fact that it has let save a lot of money spent on firewood and charcoal. they said our product, the briquette last long and produces a soo much heat which makes them cook faster, hence reducing time and saving money used to buy more charcoal. they also said the like the idea that it doesn't produce smoke, hence no coughing and other respiratory diseases. They recommended us on the fact that it is cheat which is relative to the value they get and as compared to firewood and charcoal and is easily accessible. The entire society recommend us on fact that it cleans the society.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

86% of the food vendors who use our product recommend our project and 90% of saw mill operators always talk about the good work we are doing to the extend that they sometimes give us some money to transport the saw duct to our site of production. Mr. Kwaku Yeboah, a saw mill operator said that he spend GHS 200.00 every two weeks to get people to burn the saw dust. He continue that since we started using his saw dust, he has been able to save that money. The projected future impact is focus on green economy, be able to generate electricity from the process of manufacturing our product and be able to implement lean manufacturing in our system so as to eliminate waste, reduce cost and add value for our customers and the entire community. we will also like to impact in the life of children, disables and orphans.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

The main strategy is to move forward and make great impart in the world as a whole by solving most of the global challenges. We want to use this opportunity to reduce child labor, increase women empowerment and gear the world towards green economy. the green economy is on it way. conserving the forest for future generation and focusing more on recycling our own waste into new products.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

To ensure financial sustainability, there must be a constant demand of our product. we use the market penetrating pricing policy which gained for us a lager customer base. our organization is customer centered and our supply chain strategy is very responsive. we meet our customers need in real time. customers understands us and are ready to pay for good product offer since they are included in our product development and decisions making.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

our direct competitor is the charcoal produces. our approach differ form theirs, based on the fact that we do address most societal problems of which they do not consider. The issues we consider but they don't are deforestation, climate changes, global warming, elimination of smoke and so on. we seek to clean the society by gathering organic waste materials and then recycle it into our product, the briquette.

Founding Story

90% of Ghanaian and 69% of Africans use firewood and charcoal as their primary source of fuel. Africa loses thousands of hectors pf forest as a result. The use of charcoal and firewood is very stressful and causes respiratory disorder which kill most African women and children. upon a community visit and speaking to some food vendors, they complained that the use of firewood and charcoal is stressful and produce soo much smoke and they pleaded that if we can help them with an alternative which will be smokeless and cost efficient. so we put their request into consideration and designed a system, a machine that can convert waste materials into an alternative source of fuel, the briquette.

The team consist of five members, two mechanical engineers, a chemist, a renewable resource scientist and myself, an entrepreneur and a business man.The mechanical engineers are responsible for the operations and maintenance of the pressing machine. The chemist is in charge of quality control and the renewable resource scientist is responsible for the availability of quality input and am in charge of the managing and marketing of the products. Am a third year student in Business administration, and the rest are in the final year of their various area of study. we work on part time basis but is scheduled in terms of shifts.
