It is becoming more inconvenient to carry around 2- 3 device that all do, essential, the same thing in different sizes. We are designing a general purpose cloud computer capable of replacing additional devices, being worn conveniently around the neck, and lower manufacturing CO2 Footprint.

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The main idea behind saving energy in the high-tech world has been to buy newer, more energy efficient devices, but since as much as 70% of the energy a typical laptop will consume during its life span is used in manufacturing the computer. More energy would be conserved by reducing power used in the manufacturing of computers. With over 90% of US households having 3 or more connected devices, this is unlikely to happen.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Our solution is to consolidate the main devices consumers use into a small wearable general purpose computer. Through our research we have found that the only reason people carry many devices is due to the screen size. Thus, we are designing a projector cloud computer with capabilities of a Tablet, Mobile phone, and Laptop combined, to be worn conveniently around the neck. We believe by reducing the size and amount of devices consumers carry, we can make an impact on both the reduction of consumer and manufacturing ends.

Impact: How does it Work

The manufacturing of electronics consumes a large amount of is an energy. In the average laptop between 220 - 270 kg of CO2 is produced due to energy consumption alone (Not to mention the CO2 from raw materials production, transportation, CO2 during use of the device, and the recycling of the device) . Our product is designed to be a more convenient and smaller while reducing the CO2 footprint close to that of a smartphone (around 7kg of CO2). If we only replace 1 million laptops per year we can mitigate 213,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, in save manufacturing energy alone. With 202 million laptops produced in 2012 alone their is a huge market and environmental potential.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

By shrinking the size of the laptop to the size of a smartphone we can reduce the CO2 footprint to 10 - 7Kg. If we only replace 1 million laptops per year we can mitigate 213,000 tonnes of CO2 per year, in save manufacturing energy alone. In addition, we believe this will also reduce the CO2 footprint on the recycling, raw materials, transportation, and consumer industries as less will be created.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We are starting with the education and DIY sectors as these are the main influences on the opinion of the general population. This market will mainly consist of the Europe America, and Australia. After a few years in these markets we will expand to the rest of the world through distributors. To appeal to the general public we use the convince and uniqueness as the main selling point, then use the environmental factors as a tail wind. This will allow for our product to appeal to more then just environmentally conscience people.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Our model is to sale direct from online to customers for 350 per computer, and up selling with upgrades through the cloud.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Direct competitors includes Solu and Remix Mini, which create cloud computers that connects to any monitor and/or uses a screen for portability. Indirect competitors include the big wearable companies that create wearable watches including Apple, Samsung , pebble, etc. However, our product provides a projection for a more convenient experience which allows for changes in size to the screen when needed in a small necklace for portability. We believe that devices should seamlessly interact with everyday life with the least amount of impute from the consumer.

Founding Story

When I was visiting a friend in the USA I notice that he had 5 devices he carried on a daily basis that made his life even more difficult. It is our personal belief that technology should be an open conversation to everyone's life more convince.


Robert Taylor Age 27 currently works for Irofit doing business development, has worked from startups in the past such as Groupon as an Account Executive and has a BBA in marketing Degree From Loyola University Chicago. Robert contribute his business development skills to focus the company, provide strategy and vision. (Full-Time) Abidemi Orebiyi Age 29 currently works for Irofit Doing Web and back-end server development, and Has a BS in Information Technology from Savonia University. I have had the privilege to work for many start ups in the past in business development roles in company's such as Groupon, International Alternative Energy Resources, and Irofit (current). Through my experience I could see the value of out side opinions and knowledge, thus, when starting this program, my first act was to go through to the Climate-Kic Hessen Accelerator program. This program tough me how to be a better entrepreneur, and gave me guidance on what to do.

Beyond your existing team, who else are you working with to achieve your objectives, eg partners, advisors, mentors?

Beyond our team we have sussful put together a good list of partners, including companies such as Leap Motion (providing Interface IP), Sensoftia (a prototyping company), Savonia (local university helping in design and research), Elektropoint (a local manufacture to verify the energy saving and manufacture the product), Kuopio Innovation (a local business incubator) and Klassica High School (the first pilot customer once the product is built through the FinEduVR project).
