About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Jean Bouteille is trying to resolve the trash production of our life standards.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

The solution is very basic : Sell liquid in bulk in a returnable bottle, that is washed nearby the stores. Therfore it is cheaper (thanks to bulk sales), with less trash (we can re-use more than 20 time a bottle) and generate local jobs , thanks to bottle washer that are implemented in local foactories, mainly in assisted employement center)

Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Today, we mainly use one way single use bottle. To arrive to your kitchen, this bottle have travelled a long way, from extraction, to manufacture, to bottle plant, then logistique center, shops and your home. Then is become a trash, goes to your local trash center, get (maybe) recycled, crunch, then go back to the glass manufacturing plant. What we are achieving is delocation the bottling plant in the shop, and build a network of shops around a local bottle washer. The impact is huge in term of Co2 (80% less) water consumption (50% less) and local job generation

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

As of today, wae have equiped 25 stores. This is about 10 000 returnable bottles put in the market, so a potentiel of 5 Tonnes of trash less. The projet is created to be replicable. The goal is now to replicate it everywhere to have local plant that reduce local trash

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

1980's economy is built on globalization and Economy of scales. Those 2 types of economy have a very bad impact of the environnement and social issues. The startegy is to fit Jean Bouteille in a new economic model, based on circularity and functionnality, that will be replicable very easily, from Europe, to Asia, to South America.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

We succeed to finance the growth of Jean Bouteille via local programms, crowdfunding, investors and traditionnal banking. Now the main activity is self sufficiant and we need funds to get bigger and better. That is why we are currently increasing the capital of the company with new investors, a fondation and some industrial partners. Money is key in a start-up that is doing a lot of R&D in a totaly new market. But the market is here.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There is no competitors that are having the same appraoch. Some comapnies are trying to sell liquid bulk dispenser but with just reusable bottle. This is not a viaible solution for me regarding food, because to complicate for the client that needs to think about his bottle everytime he goes shopping. It can work for detergent, because it is very hard to clean a detergent bottle and less important to be in shortage of detergent at home.
