POVERTY and Unemployment-It basically tries to address the state of poverty and unemployment prevalent among the youth, who include vulnerable/at risk youth living in slums and also young mothers. This is conducted through mitigation of a hands on skills training. Hunger-Thousands of kenyans can only afford one meal a day while they are living below poverty level. Drug and substance abuse, High mortality rate, Illiteracy among youth.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Social economic development; The unemployed and at risk youth once trained will be empowered for self social economic development which will further positively impact on GDP,hence national economic growth.Specifically,it reduces the rate of domestic crime when the very youth have the capacity to trade which also empowers them to obtaining credit. Many african countries have , unemployment has become a common phenomena within the many African states rendering the youth vulnerable to many vices not to mention recruitment into the terrorist activities. The organization's target has been focusing on the social welfare development agenda for the subjects with intents of making their lives better, through informal training sessions .

Not any that is tangible but have experienced recognation and honor from the local county Government by having time to grace some of our activities.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

The trainings has had a major boost to many of our trainees in the fact that some have plunged into own business start ups or have found an entry point to the employment sector. The following few cases may be cited as examples: Annteresa Nyaguthii a catering trainee is now a happy employee as a waiter on internship in Mount Kenya's Fairmont Hotel. This was achieved through the training experience attained from our organzsation. Faisa Wairimu, also a catering student has teamed up with other able individuals to establish an outside catering outfit. A Mr Maina, also a catering student was supported to starting up a fruits hawking business. He is currently hawking fruits in the streets of the town to make a living

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

So far a total of 40, composed of young mothers,vulnerable/at risk boys/girls have undergone various entrepreneurial training some whom are now able to earn a living. Many of them are now able to support their homes, pay for their house rents,and/or even able to fend for themselves. The organization has as well started a car wash business where some of them may be employed and proceeds used as own income.A hairdressing salon has also been established where those trained in hairdressing will take it up as an own venture. We also intend to undertake further similar training to all other interested cases whose names are in our waiting list, the awaiting list already have 150 youth and the young mothers who will be enrolled in mid-January. The projection of this organization is to reach more than 2000 youths and young mothers in year 2016,plus provide start up kits to them .

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We intend to in future formulate policies that will enable the organization to spread it's tentacles to the neighboring districts of Meru,Isiolo and Samburu. Will also establish networks with other like- players and government departments that may facilitate attaining our objectives. We intend to also come up with a major income generating activity that doubles up both as a training facility as well as an income earner e.g a school uniforms repair and making project. Underway is Half house program, which will makes sure infants from slum are fed on balance diet every week under nutritionist

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The car wash/salon will be training venues as well as income generating activities. We intend to seek funding that can be used to support business start up for individuals. This can be paid back with an interest to enable sustainability and support of future programs.A project for making reusable sanitary towels that is underway will see the selling of the towels at an affordable cost that can be plowed back, also the selling of the school uniforms.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

In our given area no other organization is imparting skills to the young mothers from slums and the vulnerable youth with an eventual support to business through provision of business start up kits. This being a tailor-made program one doesnt require any academic qualification, our able team conducts a case study to prove the identified case deserves the chance.

Founding Story

Nanyuki town is encroached by four major slums. They are inhabited by low earners whose major economic activities majors in drinking and selling of illicit liquor and prostitution .These businesses are hardly enough to cater for basic needs and children are mainly left unattended. On a case study and fact finding mission of an individual neglected case,I and a friend realized the kind of hardships many of the children were experiencing and discovered a cycle of poverty within the many slum families as a common occurrence. The site was a major trigger to our big interest that would mitigate the situation among the youth to facilitating a self economic development to break the cycle.
