About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

In a typical society where majority of the people use commercial [road] transportation system. The system is such that the passenger will have to go to the station (motor park) and inquire for the available vehicle going to his/her intended destination, if there is, he/she pays for a seat and waits for other passengers to arrive and do the same process, when the vehicle fills up, the travel starts to the destination.

MyQ is an awesome application that lets you check out all the transport companies, their stations, destinations and ticket prices, number of vehicles currently loading and available seats real-time then get a ticket.

Impact: How does it Work

Download and install the app, get an account and (one-time) login, select a transport company, select the departure station, then see all the available destinations, ticket prices, number of vehicles and available seats. Choose your destination; tap on the “Ticket” button and voila! You have a ticket. Make your way to the station. On arrival, the clerk scans and validates your ticket, pay, get on the vehicle and off you go.

Slowly and steadily, the project is revolutionizing the paradigm of the Nigerian road travel industry. As we move from the local pitching competition in Abuja where competed with 5 other startups to the National competition in Lagos where we competed with 12 other startups, we see the hope in the faces of other young aspiring entrepreneurs and innovators in our very infant startup ecosystem. The problem we are solving is native to more 90% of the country's population. You pitched the idea behind the solution and instantly you see heads nodding in agreement. However, the market and the economy is still young with regards to the penetration of technology, therefore it will take much more than an app or huge marketing fund to achieve massive adoption but also persistence, creativity, feedback-triggered-innovation and time for the market to be just ready at the right time and place.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We basically studied the customer [passenger] behavior and decision journey along the whole value-chain. From the time the customer decides to travel to arrival at the destination. We took the existing the processes and built a technology that automates them with the people involved in mind. Because of people's susceptibility to change, we automated the existing "traditional" method on the app then throw it out to the market and watch out for feedback. Therefore, any future upgrade will be user feedback triggered. As the app is achieving wide adoption then we can chip extra features.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Revenue Stream:- 1. Commission on Ticket Sales. 2. Advertisement on Vehicles. 3. Vehicle, Driver and Passenger Insurance. 4. BIG DATA.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Ticket Simply– India We provide the customer with live data as it is in the station, ticket reservation (and cancellation) and payment upon arriving to the station for boarding. To the transport operator, we provide stations and fleet management, vehicle and driver management vehicle queuing, passenger loading, e-ticketing and auto-manifest.

Founding Story

One faithful day of July, 2014, while sitting down in a general motor/bus station, waiting for other passenger to fill up the vehicle. I saw a scrappy board with a table drawn containing plate(registration) numbers of vehicles and ticks. I asked some of the drivers on what it means and I was told it used to manage queuing of vehicles as they load passengers one after the other. I asked who was responsible for it and I was told it is the booking clerk then I asked to meet him. This was how the name MyQ was gotten.
