About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Argentina is the 17th country with more fesh water sources, but the distribution of the access to clean water is very unequal: according to the last census, 6 provincies have more than the 95% of acces while other 5 have less than the 80%. In general, Argentina has 17% of the population with lack of access to clean water (almost 7 million pepole). In the world, this value is 11% (still very high), which means that our contry is above the mean.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Ympacto Positivo will finance projects to improve the access to clean water for many people by selling water to the people in Buenos Aires. We put dispensers of water in public places such as universities, shools or parks and with the 100% of the profits we will finance the construction of water cisterns in the centre and north of Argentina, which are the more problematic ones. That is the social impact of the project, but it has also an economic and an enviromental impact. The economic one is for the consumers that buy our water, because they will pay half the prize per litre they pay now in any store. The enviromental one is that it supports the reutilization of bottles. The consumers have to take their own bottle and recharge it.

Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

You´ve been working up, you are thirsty and the water you brought from your house has run out. You have three options: wait to arrive to your house again, buy a bottle in a store or recharge your bottle in the nearest Ympacto Positivo´s dispenser. This last option has a lot of advantages, not only for you but also for thousand people: -save money, because you will pay much less per litre than in a store -Support the reduction in the production of PET bottles, because you reuse yourse -with the 100% of the profits of your purchase, our enterprise will finance the construction of water cisters to take clean water to those who do not have access to it yet. You can generate this triple impact without any effort, just by drinking some water.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

The initiative is in the sturting-up period, so to date it has no direct impact on the access to clean water. Altough, during this time, a lot of people that hear about the project could become consious and raise awareness about this problematic, and this is one of the main objectives that we have. In relation to the future impact, we expect to finance the construction of 600 water cisterns in the first five years. This means that 4000 people will hace access to clean water. This benefit allows this people to have clean water for cooking, drinking or bathing and decrease the risk of disease, specially in kids. This project will also have an enviromental impact. We will divert the production of 5,000,000 PET bottles, because our consumers will reuse their own ones. The third impact is the economic one. The total saving for our consumers in this period will be of U$S 2,500,000.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

The key of this project is that is really easy to replicate and upscale. This is because to grow you have low overhead costs, only the dispenser. Our strategie is to increase the amount of dispensers in staggered manner, depending on the response of the consumers. We will analyze the results of each dispenser and put them in the most demanded points, looking the highest effectiviness per dispenser. We will begin in universities, schools and the health stations located in public parks, because this three points are very crowded, especially with young people, that is our target market.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The project needs an initial investment until it can reach the break even point. It will be used for the first 60 dispensers and pay the costs of the 2 years. Since that moment, the project will sustaine by its own incomes, that will be divided in three uses: pay costs, reinvest for growing and finance the construction of water cisterns For being sustainable, the project will grow in staggered manner, considering the response of the consumers.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

There are several organizations adrressing the problem of the acces to clean water. Most of them are carrying out projects of construction of water cisterns or wells. It exists a net of foundations working on this issues called "Sed Cero". This network is going to be one of the main recipients of our project. We will enhace them by the financing we will provide. There is a brand of water called "Conciencia" that also sells water and finance social impact. It differs from us because they use the 50% of their profits to finance a hospital, while we use the 100% and finance only water projects.

Founding Story

We are a group of five friends that have been related to different social projects for many years. Two of them have a social business that sells wine and other regional products and, with the 100% of their profits, finance NGO´s projects . They want to expand this idea, so we join and decide to start a new social business, addressing the problem of the lack of access to clean water in Argentina. The five of us share the passion for the social bussines and also for the entrepreneurship. We want to help people and we believe we can do it as our job and not just like a hobby. Since then, we had a lot of meetings with the partners and suppliers and did the pilot testing with great results.

The Board member will be the five co-founders. Three of them will work full-time when the projects grows and the other two will work part-time. The three that will work full time are going to be Logistics, Institutional Relations and Finance Chiefs. They also will be the President, the CEO and the treasurer of the board. Both of them are Agronomic Engineers and the third one is an Industrial Engineer. The three of them has a lot of experience working in NGO´s and also in business. We are associated with an accountant and a law firms, an industrial designer and a community manager. Our water supplier will be IVESS.
