About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Reduce Your Use is an organization, that is trying to address climate change. We know that climate change, is a topic in which we all are part of it. If we really want to attend it, we need the help of everyone around the world. The Earth is our only home, if we want to continue living the way we do today, we need to change our daily habits now.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Reduce Your Use is an organization, that is trying to explain what climate change really is, the way it affects humanity and the solutions to attend it, with the use of images and videos. As well, we are trying to raise global awareness about this topic, so that people all around the world can start changing their habits into sustainable ones, because is we want to stop climate change we all need to take action on it. As Henry Ford once said: "If everyone is moving forward together, then success takes care of itself."

Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Rome wasn't build in one day... so that's why we started this project. We started by talking with our friends, our family, our teachers, our neighbours and with the people that we met. We showed them that even if ONE person changes it's habits into sustainable ones, the change is significant to the world. We were able to change the mentality of an entire generation in our school, and we were able to participate in the design of our new high school building, which is 100% sustainable.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

"We don't have to engage in grand. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world"- Howard Zinn. Climate change is the biggest problem in which all humanity participates, and the second biggest situation in which we all participate, is the solution to stop it. We need to share and spread facts, solutions and the difficult living circumstances that people are facing due to climate change. That's why we are trying to collect votes and voices with social media, such as Facebook, Twitter and Instagram, till now we have 250 people aware of what we are doing and with the initiative to make a change.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

We see it as a huge network. We all have friends and family, and those friends have more friends and family. So, at the end, we are all connected in this massive network in which we will be able to change the mentality of all humanity.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Let's see it as a staircase, we will climb it little by little until we reach our goal. We don't really need to raise money, because we will make people aware of what is really happening in our planet, and they will understand that we are the only ones with the capacity to stop climate change.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

As far as we are concerned of, no one in our country has taken action with the same target as the one that Reduce Your Use has. We are taking this project beyond our boundaries. From Mexico City, to the entire world.

Founding Story

On a day, Gustavo arrive to my house and told me: "I cannot stand living in this planet, by knowing that it's being destroyed by humanity..." The fact, that both of us were included in the word "humanity" made us realise that we needed to take action and make a difference. "The world will not be destroyed by those do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything." -Albert Einstein.

Gustavo was invited by SEMARNAT (Environmental Mexican organization) to Calakmul (located in Campeche, Mexico), the day it was recognised as a natural and cultural protected area by the UNESCO. The president of Mexico, Enrique Peña Nieto attended to this ceremony. This invitation, was given to Gustavo, due to the project that he did in that area, which consisted in the development of a bookmark which was integrated with Augmented Reality technology. This bookmark, was given to each of the countries that voted to name Calakmul as a natural and cultural protected area.
