About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The idea of Teach Each stems from the thought of making an impact in the Indian society. The criminal activities in India are on a rise and it can be attributed to the absence of basic education among the working class i.e chauffeurs, security guards and other housekeeping staff. Teach Each can combine education in various spheres and transmit it to the second class employees to benefit them and society as a whole.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

The culture of having chauffeurs and house-help in india is widespread. For every 2 members of the family in the developed cities there is 1.5 house-help. The quality of life of these employees is very poor, as they’re underpaid and exploited for work. It is important to do something to benefit this section of the society as there low-quality lifestyle leads to increase incidence of petty thefts and on several occasions serious criminal activities. Under Teach Each(TE) , the chauffeurs who wait for their employees outside the offices of Multinational Companies will be taught various subjects in order for them to be mentally and physically fit.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

In New Delhi, more than a million people commit everyday for working in several MNC’s , majority in cars, with chauffeurs. If the program is adopted, a driver waiting for 8 hours for their employer would on a normal day sit outside, play cards, engage in substances or do nothing at all! What if this time was utilised to do something productive? They can be taught basic english skills, etiquette, Importance of hygiene, Finical management , Sex education etc.. This all will contribute towards improving the quality of life, increasing employability, reducing crime and poverty, and thus create a peaceful and improved society.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

The project is still in the initial phase, and implementation is planned to happened beginning next year. Though, the market research is completed. From collecting primary data through questionnaires and having interviews with top educators and executives across New Delhi , we have generated a really good and positive response. About 70% of the sample (200 people) said they would adopt Teach Each for their chauffeurs and house help. According to the research, Multinationals are willing to contribute to such a project per student. After discussions with educators in india, we were able to find the right direction towards curriculum development of the project , which is currently happening as I write these answers.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

The ides can be spread in a fast way once few initials clients are signed up. According to the number of MNC’s in India, almost every company can sign up for this project in the next 5 years. The plan includes achieving full potential in New Delhi in the next one Year and then moving on to other hubs in India. India has a huge Middle -Class who work for multinational companies and about 60% have chauffeurs. This gives us a very large potential clientele as India is the second most populated country in the world.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The budget required initially is not much as most money is going towards development of curriculum . The initial investment will be to employ teachers , but keeping the option of student volunteers open as the business expands.Revenue will be generated by contribution by MNC’s from the assigned CSR budget towards the project to improve the quality of life of second class employees.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

. There are several NGO’s which exist In India and many Non-Profits as well in order to educated poor people. But no one has yet thought of teaching this specific section of chauffeurs of MNC workers which gives this project a huge competitive advantage over any other organisation. Under Teach-Each(TE) we don't ask for time during your work hours or exorbitant some of money from the Employees, the MNC will pay for the education directly , this model is sustainable and scalable.
Team

Founding Story

As I was driving back from work this September in my car with my chauffeur, a thought came to my mind. This thought didn't come to me for the last 21 years, but that day I decided to ask him a question. (In Hindi) - Suraj(driver), what do you do when I work in the office? He seemed zapped by the question and didn’t know what to say. I repeated, and his reply was something I expected- Sir, I was finding a tree for the first few hours to get shade from the sun, and after finding it I was sitting under it. And this led to the inception of Teach-Each.

Leadership and the Unilever Awards
Please provide examples of any previous entrepreneurial initiatives you have pioneered.

During my time in university in London, I was studying finance and business at Cass Business School. This gave me an opportunity to be at the epicentre of the global economy. Interacting with different people from different cultures and mindset helped me develop an outlook about subjects like politics, finance, economics among other things. I took a placement year with Walt Disney in London which gave me an insight in the working of a Multinational and how decisions are made there. This my first entrepreneurial venture , but I feel I have experience in dealing with various stakeholders already which gives me an edge.

Beyond your existing team, who else are you working with to achieve your objectives, eg partners, advisors, mentors?

I’m working with two partners in the education industry, one involved in the process of curriculum development - Educomp Solutions. a listed education company in Asia and also with Lotus Learning Foundation- a social enterprise which is helping me with understanding the working of Teach Each from the perspective of second class employees in order to get aware of their needs.I’am also actively seeking consulting and advice from several top executives in india in order to understand how to sell the project to the MNC’s. My mentor Shantanu Prakash, CEO, Educomp Solutions is backing me to run a pilot in his organisation which will materialise after the curriculum development is complete.
