About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Let me tell you a story about 2 regular people in Colombia. Nico and Carlos. Nico is a poor child. Everyday he beggs for money in the streets to help his parents who are unemployed . Carlos is an entrepreneur who manufactures plastic bags and and although he knows the environmental impact of his economic activity, he knows he has to continue. Carlos sees Nico every day in the streets. He knows he has to do something but he does not know how.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Example is the main key to our goal. WeAreTwo will distribute a percentage of their profits on behalf of children , their health and education. We are also agents of change in order to finish with the cycle of poverty in our country. It is precisely our reason for being . If Companies understand the importance of improving their manufacturing processes, reducing environmental impacts generated, creating an economic benefit in their favor, through socially responsible practices, then we have done our job on earth . We would generate marketing, added value and tax benefits, more efficient and committed workers and a equitable society. People like Carlos and Nico will benefit and achieve increasing responsible economy in our country.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

If Carlos, owner of the plastic bags factory, decided to contract our services, he would receive an international accreditation for his positive environmental footprint, after the necessary adjustments to the reduction in toxics in his products. Carlos, with the connection that WeAreTwo realized, would generate indirect employment. He could create an agreement with the city recyclers, to be in charge of the recycling process of his products. These people would be organized so that their work was formally now. Best of all, is that parents of children as Nico , would be the people trained for this work, so Nico could stop asking for money on the streets and go to school like other children . We would finally break the cycle of poverty.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

The impact would be reflected through two areas: Donations and implementing CSR in a company. If Carlos decides to change his business habits, he begins receiving a benefit because WeAreTwo will be responsible for generating innovative ideas that will give added value to hiscompany, which in turn generate more clients and consumers. The impact for the environment begins from reducing energy, for his employees, respect for appropriate labor practices with the Millennium Goals, for society, generating indirect employment. If Carlos decided to make only donations, he would impact the number of children and families who benefit from the creation of libraries to improve education . Society would be the largest beneficiary in any way. Therefore the project is self-sustaining, as a benefit for both sides is generated.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Our innovation is to create CSR plans for both large companies and small. The job is difficult because in Colombia, over 96 % of companies are MSMEs and is precisely for this reason that we want them to more competitive in market, through social value added. We have already created the training and ongoing events for education of managers and employees on human rights, labor and environmental rights. Compromise must be for each one of members of the company. We offer support, processing and reporting of sustainability, international accreditation, brand positioning, exemption of taxes.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Our project is self-sustaining . The aim is precisely to make them customers to choose if they want to implement CSR in their companies and work with us, in order to get benefits arising on both sides. Our foundation, in the other hand, as an alternate workspace, will work with WeAreTwo profits and donations received by the same foundation events organized by itself.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

The problem is approached by companies looking to implement CSR in Colombia . They are betting on the multi -national companies, and they are creating projects to finance foundations that, most of the times, have nothing in common with their object. We want to change the impact of a company. We want to make it socially and environmentally viable. We offer different solutions with new technologies that allow a real value for the company and a real social impact on society .

Founding Story

Since we started to develop donations and events for the education of children, we knew we had to work for our society. We want to return the true sense of the law, through notorious practices. As we evolved through corporate law, we knew that we were very good at what they did, but it didn`t satisfy us completely. The day I decided to change my life, happened every day . I see so much misery in my country, children without families, uneducated, repeating their parents poverty cycle. That problem must end. The laws of my country fail to supply and fix the root of the problem. Corruption doesn't t allow the funds to reach their actual destination. That is why we see solution in companies.


Our Panel is composed of young people wanting to make a difference. We are a group of lawyers with experience and interest in different areas. Maria del Mar is focused in the area of ​​CSR and enterprises. Brenda and Camilo are focused in the area of international law and human rights , Martha is focused on business law and enterprises. Juan Esteban is an economist with an interest in public economy . Nicholas is a publicist , with special interest in advertising innovation . We are a team that know each other for more than five years ago, we all know our purpose and the goalss we want to achieve . Most of us (the first four ) would be full time at the company. Nicholas and Juan Esteban are external consultants.

Please provide examples of any previous entrepreneurial initiatives you have pioneered.

I've always been interested in making social impact. Every year, I create donation campaigns, to bring gifts and clothing for children from the poorest hospitals in my city , at Christmas . As a lawyer, I have done pro -bono activities , assisting people who can not afford a lawyer. Also I did a donation campaign in orde to create a library at a school located in a village on the Atlantic coast of my country. More than 50 children were benefited from this initiative and today they have in their school a library to enjoy. I am anactive supporter of human rights and their continued study. I don't like to see problems, I like to see opportunities.

Beyond your existing team, who else are you working with to achieve your objectives, eg partners, advisors, mentors?

We have a network between academics, non-profit organizations , the chamber of commerce of Bogota , among others.


First of all, I would like to thank you for this amazing opportunity. I feel so much excited now that i know my Project is actually being readen by a true profesional. Let me try to provide you the answers you wanted to know from this feedback.

1. We understand perfectly that companies should focus on its purpose and that is what we want. Enterprises already have their own issues, and this new idea can't be their new subject to "take care of". That is why WeAreTwo offers the possibility of having your company studied by experts in order to determine where is its potential for improvement, either on human rights or environmental rights, either both of them. All companies are different, and therefore WeAreTwo will always begin its job with a pre-investigation company in general. With this study, we will be able to observe their actual work practices, we would see what we can improve, and the result would only against what the company decides to hire. Therefore, we want to offer permanent training, internal activations within human rights and environmental rights, we would offer financial studies to recognize what is the economic gain if they decide to implement best practices. We would also offer contact with groups of interest , who would previously be organized by legal status by us, (working closely with public institutions that allow such development) in order to establish indirect labor activities that will be permanent.

2. This is a very important question, precisely because its exactly why I feel determine about my interests in corporate responsibility. Some time ago, I worked in a multinational company. The dream of anyone. However, for me it was really shocking to see what CSR was exactly for this enterprise, when my expectations were all about helping through the trade name of the company. The result was completely different from what I expected.
Let me put it in other words: I think that if you produce shoes, your true social responsibility as an employer is that this production is feasible for the environment, your employees would have a decent wage, and it would also serve your community. Responsibility starts from the legal name of your company, and it has to be permanent, if you really want to be a responsible company. You can't bring gifts at Christmas to poor children, and call yourself a responsible enterprise, if the remainder of your actions are causing unemployment and poverty in your community. If you sell shoes, how children could ever be benefit from gifts one month a year? It has no connection at all. However, if your shoes are manufactured with materials friendly to the environment, if you decide to employ female householders, and you also are actually improving the lifestyle of your community by donating a percentage of your earnings, then you are actually demonstrating your commitment to society. CSR is known today such as donations and events just a couple of times per year. WeAretwo is going to change that notion and will connect people and enterprises with the true meaning of CSR. Being responsible permanently.

Our model reflects a work between two parties of a contract. An employee, and people who need that job. I completeley understand that it is very difficult for companies to hire new people to an area that doesn't even exists yet. However, that is why we are talking about indirect-jobs. You generate jobs when you help your community with legal, financial, environmental advice. You help when you provide the materials to let them work. If enterprises decide to be responsible with society, then they will feel this is actually a need. Interested people will need to get organized (with our help) and they will have special contracts with enterprises. Then in that case, of course jobs could be permanent, because they are not going to represent an expense to their credit.

We will be able to represent a lasting impact between enterprises, because everybody nowadays is taking care of their internal politics, not only to be more closer with human and environmental rights, but because they know they have to be competitive with other enterprise, who are starting to look CSR as a new potential kind of advertisement to society. We want to make them know it is not only about their sales, because, eventhough they will improve considerably, they need to change that "chip" and start taking true control about how they are actually affecting lives around their community. For that reason, we feel more than prepared to spread our impact. That is our main duttie after all. Every company in the world, must change their internal and external practices. It is only with example that is going to work.

Our idea is unique. We want to transform CSR. Not to continue just they way it is working today. It is not going to be easy, at all. But we are sure we will be able to demonstrate, through facts, digits, example and our permanent support, that CSR is the best way to improve your enterprise, through improving your society.
