The main objective of the project is to establish friendly relations seniors and youth for joint thematic tours, crafts, book discussions

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Seniors are the most skeptical group and our task is to convince them that they are useful to society, young people need their experience and skills, they can expand their social circle and diversify their leisure. We chose the site for the project Latvian National Library, as it is quite academic and at the same time a public place. At the same time, it is difficult to convince seniors get together at a certain time for unclear reasons. Many need long to explain what they are interested in the project that they will spend time with benefits for themselves. Many seniors shy, suffer from many of the complexes. Many seniors think that they are not interesting for young people. Our aim is to convince them otherwise.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

The target group - 50 people: 30 seniors and 20 young people. We'll start with the education of young people handicrafts that are owned by seniors: crochet and knitting, embroidering, making gifts and souvenirs.Crafts classes will be held in an informal setting. Tables will be covered with tea and biscuits, which will prepare the participants of the project.During the lessons seniors talk about folk customs associated with crafts, interesting stories from their own lives. The next phase of the project, reading and discussion of old books reprinted in the present. The next stage-themed tours in the city's museums and various historical places in Riga.Final Project-a charity concert dedicated to the International Day of Seniors. The unusual project is that during the project seniors are constantly communicating with young people and send them to their different experiences. The project fosters respect for the youth to seniors. Seniors expand their circle of friends, meet new people, do not feel alone.Young people an opportunity to learn a lot about the history of his people, the customs and folk crafts. Learn about the capabilities of the National Library and the many museums, raise their cultural level. Our project has a systematic approach to the problem of relations between members of different generations, raising mutual respect, tolerance and humanism.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

In October and November of last year we had two joint ethnographic tour, which was attended by 70 seniors, members of our organization and 30 orphans. We regularly organize concerts in a shelter for seniors, which serve children from different schools and children's clubs. It has become a good tradition. Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Мany other organizations where the target group are seniors, mainly engaged in the organization of their free time without the involvement of young people. These organizations are also involved in the development of handicrafts and other talents. But this occurs in a closed circle, substantially without regard to the other age groups. In our case, we see the interaction of the different age groups on the basis of mutual interests.
