Stakeholders' Dialog is a project that involves all the pharma players from Romania market and all their stakeholders in order to reach several common objectives: increasing health education regarding vaccination, increasing vaccination Romanian market, decreasing the number of children who are dying, etc.

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

This is an awareness campaign regarding the importance of prevention of vaccination due to the fact that at the moment only 5 % of the Romanian children are using optional vaccines. The rest of them use any. Romania has the biggest mortality rate caused by pneumonia among children worldwide: 29% (biggest than India, Bangladesh, Nigeria. )

GSK to be the promoter of a common action in pharma industry. Plan a national awareness campaign through all the channels, campaign sustained by GSK and his stakeholders, such as pharmaceuticals companies, NGO’s, state structures – Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, European Commission on Health etc.

This campaign regards vaccines market. This type of campaign can change the way of thinking of the patients and also of the doctors. My experience in vaccines market is for over 1 and a half year, working for GSK, and my focus is to offer solutions regarding vaccinations to all GSK’s clients. I have also worked 2 years in media on National Television and I have understood extremely well the impact that can have an integrated campaign like this one.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

In this project we want to involve all the stakeholders and this mean the competitors too. A project like this is in their interest too and so we aspect their support because the main objectives of this project is the growth the prevention and the vaccine overall market.

Founding Story

Every day I speak with doctors who are asking for our help. More and more patients are manipulated by all kind of information through all media channel, information that is not always confirmed. The importance of understanding the prevention has been mentioned by all doctors – a doctor told me that he feels alone in his fight with the patients’ mentality in Romania. I truly believe that this is project I propose focus on solving an important issue in Romania and it can solve it, only if all the relevant players within the industry are involved

The Solution: Why is this solution innovative for your company and industry?

A national campaign regarding vaccination has never been done in Romania. In the present it runs a very aggressive campaign against prevention of vaccination and for that reason only 5% of children are vaccinated with vaccine against pneumococcal. In Romania pneumococcal disease is the main cause of death among children.

What has been the impact of your solution to date?

This year GSK is involved in a partnership with Paediatric Romanian Society and the results are obvious but it doesn’t have the power to change mentalities. Something had been done but it isn’t enough, it’s only the first step and we must continue it through an integrated program.

What is your projected impact over the next 1 to 3 years?

The project I propose can have an impact on a long term, not only 1 or 3 years. A campaign like this has a national impact and can change the mentality of a whole generation which is completely against vaccination.

What barriers might hinder the success of your project? How do you plan to overcome them?

The only barrier can be from media and key opinion leaders that can be against the vaccination. We can overcome this problem involving them actively and directly in this campaign, through asking their inputs in order to solve this problem.

What is the benefit or value you're creating for your business?

The growth of prevention and vaccine market.

How are you leveraging internal resources (funds, time, knowledge, etc.) to support this initiative?

I am working in vaccines market and I interact directly with the doctors, so the time I spend daily on the field, can be used also for this campaign to gather information and get the support of the doctors and other related stakeholders . Also, me experience in media is an added value for implementing this campaign. The funds, as I mentioned above, will come from all the industry players due to the fact that the results of the project is in the benefit of all of them. If it will be needed further time, funds, knowledge, I am confident that my team from GSK will contribute to sustain the project.

It is a project which involves governmental structures, NGO’s, Pharma companies, media actors who understand the issue and so their support could be a certain one.

Tell us about your partnerships across your company and externally that are key to your project's success.

The vaccines team from GSK Romania sustains innovative ideas regarding vaccination. The whole leaders from GSK Romania seek ideas that can make the change in business and in the health of people. An external partner is the Romanian Government through Ministry of Health and Ministry of Education, Pharma companies that are involved in vaccines market and NGO’s will sustain this campaign because they know that only together we can make a difference.

What internal support have you gotten for your project? What kind of push-back have you received?

This project is a must for the year 2013 in Romania. We have no push-backs in this moment.
