Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

People loose precious time/money finding the right doctor. MediNav is the only system that helps people quickly find solutions for their symptoms. It is possible to also consider patient's medical history.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

What if every human being could reach the right healthcare specialist as soon as they experience some symptoms?
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

People usually get frustrated when they experience medical symptoms: they either go to the wrong doctor, either they just wait until is to late. Almost half of cancer patients are diagnosed too late. This begs the question of how we can provide practical information to people dealing with healthcare issues in order to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

MediNav is a specialized healthcare search engine. Based on symptoms identification, MediNav will be able to provide information on possible causes, best ranked clinics and medical specialists, advices from them and feedbacks from former patients. MediNav can be integrated with solutions specific to each patient, Eg: chronicle disease - diabetes or with an electronic medical file and provide guidance based on these information. The most important thing is: MediNav gives access to everybody to an accurate and structured medical information, bringing together patients, former patients and medical specialists (can be both medicine and alternative medicine).

Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

A young woman (Mira) might experience some symptoms like dizziness, blurry vision, earache and would use the app to check for possible causes. Mira could learn more about her symptoms, see other doctors' advices and be invited to check some additional symptoms like benumbed hands, feet. She then, could be guided to learn more about multiple sclerosis and check for other signs of this dangerous disease. She would also been given the coordinates of nearby clinics and neurologists that are able to diagnose her. The doctor may write Mira a health APP providing MS self-management. So, next time when Mira uses MediNav to check some symptoms, she will be guided to check first if they could be MS-related.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Patients look for the nearest, best-rated medical specialist using MediNav to search by their symptoms. MediNav looks first at patient medical history before returning the result. A map displaying the distribution of relevant clinics is shown together with former patients feedbacks and doctors' advices/comments. Clinics are ranked based on patients feedback. Another outcome is the support network established by MediNav where patients who have same diseases can share their experience. These groups will be ideal environment to run clinical trials. As a conclusion: Medinav, as a specialized search engine for healthcare purpose, leads to healthier families, healthier workers. Overall savings to social and healthcare system would be more than 10%.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

In the first phase we will build the prototype: given some symptoms, MediNav will show possible causes. In the second phase we need marketing/communication support to advertise and validate the pilot at national level. We will need help of medical specialists to continue to improve list of symptoms and related-diseases and to support patients with advices and comments . This will show the financial, clinical and social benefits in order to build country specific business plans. In the third phase: optimisation, integration with other solutions.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

MediNav needs a suitable partnership to scale up the usage of the application across countries. Working with Boerhinger Ingelheim and partners will pump prime the healthcare market and build business case to fund at government level. Pharmaceutical companies’ sponsorship to run clinical trials by enrolling via MediNav support groups. Affiliated clinics will pay a registration fee while consultations done free using national health card.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

We do not have any knowledge of similar apps. No app is offering a complete guidance by involving doctors and taking into consideration patient's medical history. MediNav supports integration with specific chronicle diseases apps and/or electronic medical file. MediNav represents a free online database containing accurate information from doctors and former patients. Also represents a support network where patients with same disease share their experiences. Consultations at affiliated clinics will be discounted/free using national health card. This project is scalable at world wide level.

Founding Story

Some time ago a friend of ours experienced some trouble when breathing. She went to a lot of doctors, did a lot of investigations but nothing was found. Her situation got worse, day by day. One day she finally found a doctor that decided to send her to do a scan. A giant tumour was found. Luckily, there was still time to make an operation. Now she recovered and leads a normal life. He story inspired us to build MediNav - healthcare search engine able to facilitate early diagnosis and treatment by finding possible causes based on the symptoms and guiding patient to the right doctor as early as possible.
