About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Our world is daily ever-changing and becoming extremely complex and interconnected through the internet and youths today still lack the tools and skills they need to develop and prevent the dangers of sexual related dilemmas like teenage pregnancy, S.T.I and HIV/AIDS, suicide related to sexual minority stigmatization, violence and abuse against young African girls while offering parents and schools a standard medically proven developmental tool.

SMART-teen TIPS ( K-12 Edition) App is human-centered design driven medical and education mobile application that is aimed at addressing sexual and developmental dilemmas and allow youths to make smart tips they need to stay in school and avoid teenage pregnancies, abstain longer and empower young African girls with tips to prevent and fight violence against them. Its designed using the latest knowledge that present sexual development as a normal, natural, healthy part of human development that is evidence-informed, age-appropriate and theory driven for students in grades K-12. One-fifth of the world population is youths between 15-24 years and 85% of these living in developing countries the App is for low resource set-ups at risk citizens


Entered the second judging Round of "The Forbes Under 30 $1 Million Change the World Competition 2015", and received full consideration by the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School.

Milly is 17 years and is repeating her grade 11 studies. She stays with her uncle after her parents died . Her boyfriend Frank now wants to have oral sex and she is not sure if this is safe and saying NO might lose frank.Using our App, she invites her boyfriend during lunch break and the two played a few games then read about oral sex health tips. The two visited a counselor in the SMART-teen Network and got a Smart-teen card used for any future free services . Mrs Ncube son Themba (7 years) comes into casualty not passing stool after he was sodomized by Tom (12 years) their neighbors son. Mrs Ncube had been playing games on our App and Themba confessed how Tom raped him. The doctor used the App contacted Rape Victims counselor for Themba

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

Population of under 18years Zimbabweans- population of under 5 years Zimbabwean (UNICEF 2012) = 6483200-2000000 =4 483 200 If mobile penetration rate is 96. 9 % (UNICEF 2012), therefore 96. 9% of 4 483 200 =4 344 220. 8 (users) These 4 million users are our targeted youths we will impact in Zimbabwe.Over 70 000 illegal abortions are carried out in the country every year, with women running a 200 times greater risk of dying of abortion complications than their counterparts in South Africa where abortion is legal (UNICEF 2013). We aim to reduce unwanted pregnancies by actively lobbying for constitutional amendments then formulate and implement State funded sex ed into the country's national curriculum from preschool to adult education using content and results from our App.We aim to improve UNICEF 2013 "Life kills, Sexuality and HIV and AIDS Education Strategic Plan" in Zimbabwe.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Our App offers entertainment with purpose. This means most NGOs who want access to youths but failing will partner easily with us and we collaborate, so far PEPFAR Zimbabwe is keen to expand after our prototype is launched. More foundations like SAfAIDS,UNDP,UNICEF, are potential and interested partners. With their backing and coverage, our App will enter more African markets. Using measurable results such as a drop in teen pregnancy,marriage and early sexual relations we will lobby for policies that offer legal safer abortion for all there implementing the United Nations SDGs goals 3,4,5.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The App will be absolutely free! We aim to having the app recommended by WHO and UNICEF. This will attract advertisers from pharmaceutical, private Hospitals and Youth Centers to partner with us and so far PEPFAR Zimbabwe pledged to assist from prototype stage. The selling of SMART-teen Cards to youths to access subsidized services in the Smart-teen Networks is extra revenue. We have local chicken projects generating funds we have used to date.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

In Zimbabwe,NGOs do workshops in schools distributing flyers or condoms to the disappoint of many parents . No single country standard curriculum exists to address developmental issues leaving over 4 million youths desperate for answers. This gap presents a high demand and opportunity for our App and PEPFAR Zimbabwe, an NGO which assists in HIV/AIDS is willing to fund us.Globally apps like Sex-Positive and LongStory exist but currently not accessed by most youths in Sub-Sahara African countries. Using our app, youths will have health TIPS they have been eager to use 24/7 with no barriers

Founding Story

At the President Obama Mandela Washington fellowship Washington D, C, August 2015 we were deliberating on how People leaving with HIV/AIDS can address disclosure of positive status reservoir in minority high risk groups like prostitutes, LGBT and high risk youths on IV drugs. It was concluded that the internet currently provides people with solutions to whatever need and in our amazement, I figured that if people so much use search engines like Google for such delicate private issues what if Google directs them to a ONE-STOP information CENTER like Smart-teen Tips App! Instead of addressing many groups, I chose to focus on children,youths and young adults.

Tasimba Pvt Ltd offers Boehringer Ingelheim a partnership opportunity in making this product for the Zimbabwean market and the rest of Sub-Sahara Africa where this solution is greatly in need by Africa's youths. The partnership terms shall be discussed between the co-creators upon the successful funding for development and distribution of this product. Boerhringer Ingelhringer will have an opportunity to distribute other diagnostic, intervention and pharmaceutic products for the youths and Zimbabwean markets which will be accessed both from our app as a third party service provider e.g Lab Tests for testing youths for STIs or HIV ELISA tests which in private costs USD$99.00. Dr Magama & BI can open medical clinics or Labs in Zimbabwe.

Our overall aim is to develop a globally relevant educational and medical app that can be used as a gold standard for this generation and those to follow. But to do this we will begin small in Zimbabwe, then scale up subsequently until its adopted in various national educational curriculum. Ultimately working with civic society laws will be amended that promote safer health practice. This needs a lot of research tools, experts and designing that will be constantly adapted to meet our users specific needs and will require cutting edge resources and relevant funds to meet these goals.
