Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

I have found with evidence that there is not much help for people with Dyscalculia (difficulty in maths) but there is lots of help for people who have Dyslexia. The root cause is because of the lack of awareness about this learning disability. It leads to anxiety, stress and unemployment.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

What if by increasing this issue, the employment figures start rising with less people on benefits and more people reaching their dream jobs?
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The problem is the lack of awareness of Dyscalculia. It is not easily recognised, and are therefore, not many official tests (which are so expensive). It costs £300 to have an official diagnostic test which most pupils cannot afford. It also costs a lot of money to run the tests but with more demand about needing tests done, maybe the prices will be lowered. Dyscalculia sufferes struggle with simple maths as their bran functions differently.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Solutions to the problem are by raising awareness by putting up posters in schooling institutions as well as educating teachers about the disability. With Increased demands for tests, this should cause the prices to decrease especially being an education based problem. Another idea is by providing TV adverts to create a wider reach and frequency. More people will know about the disability causing them to understand the pupils behavior and to decide whether to recommend a pupil to carry out a diagnostic test.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

Once more adverts and promotion are in place to increase the awareness, people who suffer from Dyscalculia, will realise that they may have a disability. They can therefore get tested. It will relieve the frustration and and anxiety issues faced with maths and once the results have come up positive, they can receive one on one mentoring support and gaining extra time in exams. People with dyscalculia take longer to work sums out and this will be highly beneficial to them. The one on one support can also let them study at their own pace so they understand the information more compared to a teacher teaching the whole class. Once people find out they are diagnosed, it will relieve the stress as they know why they struggle with Maths.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

People with dyscalculia work really hard, yet fail their GCSE maths because their brain functions different to people who don't have the disability. This results in social exclusion, anxiety problems, low self esteem and depression. By raising awareness, this should put a stop to the problem because more people will know about it, causing teachers to recognise the issue and causing Dyscalculia sufferes to get a diagnostic test. Once the tests are cheaper, more people can afford it.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

It will then lead to more passes at Maths GCSE level which is the core requirement for most jobs. People can therefore reach their future dream jobs and it will boost their self esteem. It will also cause less people on benefits because they are able to get most jobs with a C plus grade in maths. This is why this issue needs to be recognised, even world wide. It is a global issue and 1 in 10 people know what this disability is which is shocking. This is from my own personal research and there are similar statistics found online to back this up.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

This plan requires a budget depending on the effectiveness of the marketing materials. For example, money would need to be spend on posters and flyers but TV adverts are exceedingly costly!! Which the government will need to fund.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

I do not know anyone personally who is expressing the same problems but I have read online information about people that suffer with dyscalulia which is also the problem I am facing. There are no projects out there like this. This is unique and different.

Founding Story

People have filled out questionnaires about the social problem and 1 in 10 of them had heard of the problem. I surveyed 30 people. They then stated that it is a good idea for me to do this project and to raise awareness about the issue.

Team

I have had good grades in marketing (A) and will there be good at promoting this awareness. This cannot be done alone because it is a world wide issue and printing costs are expensive so I cannot start advertising until any extra additional grants are sent to me towards this business idea. The government will be involved if TV ads are to be used to increase awareness. Other than that, I am working on this idea by myself.
