About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

The elderly in Moldova are vulnerable group with little government support and few organizations capable of providing for their medical needs. Our organization CASMED provides high-quality medical services in home to elderly in Moldova, however are dependent on a few international donors for most of our funding.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

The solution to this problem is for CASMED to engage in social enterprise to create alternative revenue streams to sustain the services we currently provide. A natural social enterprise is a private retirement home. This is working in a realm CASMED has expertise in and fills a need for such facilities in Moldova. Furthermore this has the potential to be expanded into other services such as catering for even more potential revenue.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

This solution will not only provide a safe place with medical care for elderly, but it will also support the organizations larger work in providing care to elderly. The primary activites of the retirement home will be to provide medical services, but it will serve as an activity center for the elderly residents and a chance for them to be a part of a community.

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

So far CASMED serves beneficiaries in ten rural communities. We have been working in these communities for the last three years providing high quality medical and social assistance to seniors in need. We have provided care to over 1200 seniors in need over these three years. This is very important in Moldova where there are few services available to seniors. The government provides little funding for this type of activity and furthermore provides none for seniors who have children, even if these children are living abroad, as many are.
