About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

It has been said time & again; we’ve seen it played out in the news & we've seen the films. Food security, resource scarcity & environmental degradation are human issues. We may not all see it first hand, but lives are on the line. Future generations rely on us to do the right things for the right reasons. Representing 90% of cocoa production, smallholders across W. Africa, SE Asia & the Americas rely on crops as a source of food and income.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

By putting the "Farmer First", we responsibly & fairly ensure the communities with whom we partner thrive; have access markets, financial instruments, agricultural inputs & training necessary to succeed. Supported by our founders & partners, Blommer Chocolate Co., North America’s largest processor of cocoa, & Olam International, a global leader in agribusiness, we recognize that while we are developing culturally & contextually relevant responses to the needs of communities, society & the environment, we can all still do more. To that end, we seek to foster new relationships & build new partnerships in our push to expand offerings & interventions, further improve the livelihoods of cocoa growers & to reach more communities.

Founding Story

Formalized in 2012, GrowCocoa underscores the shared sustainability commitments of Blommer Chocolate Company, the largest cocoa processor & ingredient chocolate supplier in North America, & Olam International, a global integrated supply chain manager of agricultural products & food ingredients. GrowCocoa’s formation ensures the Blommer & Olam vision that through collaboration w/ communities, local & national governments & industry leaders, the strongest & most comprehensive sustainability programs are realized. First partnering in Indonesia in 2004 to increase cocoa yields w/in a community of 2,000 farmers, today, the Indonesia network exceeds 15,100 farmers, and we team w/ >90 cooperatives and >30,000 farmers in Côte d'Ivoire.
