Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

This project addresses the communication and visibility problems that non-profit organizations have in Uruguay. This also applies to Latin America, but we will firstly address to the ones from Uruguay.

There are about 400-600 non-profit organizations in Uruguay but most of them are unknown by the general public because they do not appear on the media, they are not online, they do not advertise…they have no voice.

All of them are working with most of the needs and social issues of our society and they need help, volunteers, money, resources… recognition. But, for that, they necessitate to be visible in the first place.

For addressing the issue we visualize the creation of a nonprofit organization which we called “ikusi” (that means “seeing” in Euskera language). This non-profit will provide communication services to other non-profit that require communication.

About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

For implementing ikusi there are two type of resources needed: human and capital. The human resources needed are journalists and communicators of various areas who are able to tell stories in multi-media formats and that have a special interest in social issues. Also, volunteers will be needed. Journalism and filmmaking students are a good target of possible volunteers. It is a way of allowing them to intern in our non profit organization and also to be aware of many social issues that affect our country. The capital resources are reduced to financing. Financing is needed for starting up the nonprofit in all senses: renting a building, paying for fixed costs, salaries, buying the equipment's required (computer, cameras, tripods, voice-recorders...), paying salaries for each projects etc.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

The innovation is that ikusi uses journalism tools (such as video, storytelling, photography etc.) to tell nonfiction stories that have to do with the nonprofits. It is not “advertising” it is telling true stories, of real persons, that happened in real life and are somehow related to the organization.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

This project is innovative because there is nothing like it in Uruguay. It is visionary, entrepreneur and revolutionary. We want to renew the way in which citizens look after social issues; the way in which NGOs face their communication aspects and the way in which private companies collaborate with non profits. This is a brand new idea, supported by universities and NGOs in Uruguay as well as by many young (and not too young) leaders.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

ikusi stands up as a midpoint between For profit and Non profit organizations. The idea is being a place for Companies to be socially responsible and for NGOS to receive visibility. We peer with companies and NGOS and we do not actually have competitors.
