Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

Educational methods in Africa has been a major international as well as internal concern. Most highschool teachers find it difficult to explore and implement alternative educational methods. The cultivation of children's creative and innovative abilities is directly linked to the teaching methods in their local area. Pedagogy should therefore be of the highest priority in the puzzle of african development.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

International Academy of Teaching brings information on different teaching methods and alternatives directly to the teachers no matter how remote. By providing the teachers with the possibility of furthering their own educational and skills, IAT helps spread the knowledge on pedagogical methods, that enhance creativity and innovation in future generations.
Impact: How does it Work

IAoT inform local teachers and teaching institutions about educational science and alternative pedagogical methods. We do that either by offering workshops, courses or seminars, which go through different themes and exercises. Each participant will receave a diploma/certificate, which states that they have taken part in IAoT's program.

IAoT helps future generations of young Africans develop creative and innovative abilities through reforming early education methods. By re-educating teachers IAoT helps enforcing creative and critical thought.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

IAoT has the potential to tranform the way african teachers cultivate creative and innovative abilities in the younger generations. With the help of furthering education and transforming teaching habits, IAoT helps local teachers become a great influence on future approach to development, social and economical stability, and individual expression. Through training local teachers, IAoT will expand to most African countries, transforming educational methods throughout the continent.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

IAoT is a social economical business. This means that all profit is reinvested in the company. The main source of income is through the sale of workshops and courses. As a business, IAoT will be proactive and make contact with districts, unions and schools in order to offer the services.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

No other ngo, developmental project or governmental project is appraching pedagogy this way. Most other developmental approach concernes themselves with education as either a right, a question of material rescourses or social rescourses, but no organisation has yet focussed on providing information on alternative pedagogical methods withing the teaching.

Founding Story

While Natashia Hansen, a young dane at the time, was working for an ngo in Burundi, she had to inspect a school one day, which the ngo had build. By witnessing the way that the children were treated during the lessons and listening to the teachers' frustation of not knowing any other way, she realised that development is not always a matter of materialistic ressources, but a matter of knowledge and mentality. Child rearing and education seemed more like a question of pedagogy, not buildings. Natashia chose to devote her entire life to this idea and developed a more specific and informed version by taking the Master of Educational Athropology at Aarhus University, Denmark. Now, years later, she is ready to help change local pedagogy.
