Teachers are lacking implicative and innovative projects for their students. They are looking for solidarity initiatives which think outside the box.

Ma classe solidaire is a project which raises awareness of economic and social issues in 3 steps: KNOWLEDGE: Raising awareness to global issues; to social and solidarity economy and to the entrepreneurs replacing humans at the heart of businesses; to microcredit, a tool used to combat instability among populations excluded from traditional banking systems. EXPERIMENT: Debates on entrepreneurship and role-playing games “in the skin of a micro-entrepreneur”. ACT: Launch a class project to support a micro-entrepreneur, chosen by the students through the platform www.babyloan.org, with a solidarity loan. Throughout the year, the team will work alongside the teacher and students to implement the project.

Classes who have followed through with the educational project to the “ACT” stage have supported over 100 micro-entrepreneurs globally with solidarity loans.

• Contribution of sustainable development, social and solidarity economy and microcredit knowledge • Acquisition of solidarity and citizen values =>opening up to citizenship and solidarity through unlimited assistantship without expecting any kind of recompense: “Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day, teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime.” => Raising awareness of the value of money in developing countries • A project which brings the class together around one common feat => Mobilization of the entire class in a project which brings them closer together • What’s more, the actions undertaken by the class during the project have a real impact on the micro-entrepreneurs they support as their solidarity loan helps to develop a small revenue generating business under the best conditions possible.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

Ma classe solidaire aims to continue expanding throughout France and to adapt projects to particular targets. In order to this it would like to develop new educational tools (such as a microcredit role-playing game that facilitates understanding and appropriation among students) and to develop a network of ambassadors who could be regional representatives.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

Up until now project development has been financially supported by private individuals. We would, however, like to establish links with public stakeholders to ensure that the project can last and to facilitate its distribution across the country. This will eventually lead to the creation of a microcredit role-playing game, the costs of which are estimated at €25,000 (for the creation, printing, and time).

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

We do not know of anyone else who offers educational tools similar to ours. On the other hand, we are working with organisations which tackle the same subjects as us to build bridges.
Team

Founding Story

Babyloan, a solidarity microcredit Internet platform is the initiative behind the educational project. The kit was launched in response to many teachers using the site www.babyloan.org as a teaching tool when covering microcredit. The educational kit was what they had been waiting for in terms of content and methodology. Given the interest, Babyloan networks was able to re-create the project Ma classe solidaire, giving it more depth, and allowing teacher support, which is essential to its implementation. Since then we have been working with hundreds of teachers and it is a joy everyday!

Team

The team is made up of 2 employees and 1 intern. The manager looks after administrative and financial management aspects, as well as partnership development and strategic orientation. The head of communication and establishment relations is the spokesperson for teachers and goes into the establishments. Together, they work on the project’s development and on creating new teaching tools.
