Project Summary
Elevator Pitch

Concise Summary: Help us pitch this solution! Provide an explanation within 3-4 short sentences.

An online & offline medium for families to network, develop and provide opportunities for families to optimize their quality time. It works on both social and emotional states of children\mothers both separately & as a family. We provide individuals with expressive tools to unleash their potential.

WHAT IF - Inspiration: Write one sentence that describes a way that your project dares to ask, "WHAT IF?"

What if women were provided with the opportunity to both have a career and raise their kids properly?
About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

This project tackles 2 problems: One: There is this unrealistic stress on women to be able to match their roles as mothers and be able to develop in their careers as employees/ entrepreneurs. The expectations in the Arab world at home from a mother/ wife are tremendous due to man dominated society. Two: Many ideas of discrimination, gender bias, low expectations… are embedded into children’s heads during their early years and adolescence.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Provide trainings, technical at the surface level, to help children express themselves through hobbies. These trainings equip children with tools to adapt and release hidden emotions, while working on their general soft skills. At another level this would tackle some of the problems of mothers of by providing them: o Training for mothers on life related, work related, family related issues. o More quality time with their kids as they do common activities. o More “ me time” as while their kids are in their corresponding classes they have their me time while being accessible at the same time. o An opportunity to socialize, which in itself is a breakthrough with the rapid pace life of mothers.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

The primary activities of the project: o Online medium where tips and tricks for women and children are found. It should be highly interactive, so that women who can’t physically join this medium, can get the interaction with other mothers virtually. o Offline training center for both children and mothers, some of the activities are common in certain circumstance to work on bonding, while others are separate. Noting that: The training work to advance the soft skills of the children through working on their hobbies (drama, painting, taekwondo, music, mental math, ....), the technical skills are just the means to better express and not the contrary (the approach used by local centers).

Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

The impact to date is very limited, as the project itself is still an idea. So far the blog has a round thirty followers although it is a personal blog, a community of not less than twenty mothers is already providing non structured support. As to the future impact: it is supposed to be considerable (during the first year) * Not less than 300 Families online * Not less than 100 Families\ individuals offline. As for the qualitative impact: Mothers already has started feeling that they have a support group, they no longer feel alone or isolated. As for the children, Studies already show that children who express themselves are far more developed and happy.

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

The project would be financially sustainable by: 1) some of the activities will be with registration fees, while others will be for free. 2) The online forum, will have paid advertisements for brands that target mothers and children. 3) Some of the outputs of activities can be sold. ( for example publications of stories written by teenagers within medium, photographs taken, paintings, ….) Series of stories that target the soft skills

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

What differs about this project is the following: • It is not skills centered, meaning the concept is to give kids expressive skills and to let them become more confident rather than acquiring the skills only. • The variety of activities: activities offered in centers are very typical, they tend to limit kids rather than expand their horizon by introducing them to as many to find their real passion. • Targeting the family, sometimes as a whole and sometimes as individuals. • introducing values, with long term effect on the families. • Being parent centered, matching needs and limitations.

Founding Story

I was waiting impatiently at the reception for two as my daughter finishes her drawing lesson. I kept wondering what a waste of time to wait there for two or three hours, yet at the same time at this age I just can't leave her. My constant feeling of guilt because I am a working mother and because i want her to develop both technically and socially force me not to make her quit. Yet leaving her brother home behind and wasting all my Saturday Morning was really very emotionally costly. Wouldn't it be so worthy if I was enjoying my time during this activity by doing an activity myself?
