About Project

Problem: What problem is this project trying to address?

We need more work sources in our country, cheap and healthy food for our people, better crops for our farmers and enviromentaly friendly new energy sources.

Solution: What is the proposed solution? Please be specific!

Introduce our farmers and other companies to plant Nopal and teach our people to eat it, comertialize it and industrialze it.
Impact: How does it Work

Example: Walk us through a specific example(s) of how this solution makes a difference; include its primary activities.

The Commonwealth of the Southeast, in their line of commitment susteinability will be the first in Europe to generate biogas from the cactus. The pilot plant will be an extension of 11 hectares of unproductive land in Canary and generate 38% of the energy consumed by the treatment plant. The project will be executed by the company Elqui overall energy in an area of 11 hectares and shall be located in non-productive land to feed up to 38% of the total energy consumed by the Wastewater Treatment Plant at the industrial Southeast area of Canary. Impact: What is the impact of the work to date? Also describe the projected future impact for the coming years.

We had a speach with consultants, bankers, NGOs and farmers at FIAGRO an NGO thta work in development projects and some of us are already planting in our land. Also we are promoting Nopal with restaurants and nutrition experts. Also at least 2 large energy companys have shown interest in generating electricity with Biogas plants.

Spread Strategies: Moving forward, what are the main strategies for scaling impact?

FIAGRO offered to bring consultants to check the feasibility for it´s crop in our country and some of us are investigating about the growing techniques of this plant and even planting the available material we have found growing naturaly in our country so we can start teaching our people to eat it and plant it. Enviromentaly friendly energy sources are very apreciated by our goverment at this time and tax excemptions are available for companys and entreprenuers that start new projects so its the right time to plant Nopal and build Biogas plants, or market it for food and industrialize it.
Sustainability

Financial Sustainability Plan: What is this solution’s plan to ensure financial sustainability?

For small projects the investment is very low, our main project right now will need just $2000 aproximately for a small pilot project but we are looking for funds for a 1 MW plant that requires $1.4 M.

Marketplace: Who else is addressing the problem outlined here? How does the proposed project differ from these approaches?

Our country El Salvador to start.

Founding Story

My partner (who lives in Canada) and I were studying to build a small solar power plant with some diffculties and while participating in small organic producers market a new dream came through to get back to agriculture searching the web I found Opuntia and it´s many uses.

Team

We are working part time like this: Me, Luis Albanés am planting about an acre in my hometown and promoting the crop with farmers and companys. Yury Romero, my partner is searching for investors and the market for nutraceutics and it´s production process. A friend and consultant, Mauricio Salinas is also planting a small piece of land so as to have more material for planting and sampling.
